I asked project manager Paul Snell some questions about his rebel cricket game, The Cricket Project.
Lee Payne: Are you working on this game full time, or do you have a job outside of the game?
Paul Snell: I do have a job outside of the game - I work in IT - but I try to
devote any free time I have to the game's development.
LP: In the game, will there be on field injuries that force a player to
leave the pitch retired hurt?
PS: Yes, there will be injuries, meaning it will actually matter if you
get hit on the body by the ball. This means that ducking and avoiding
the ball moves do come into play and have a purpose, i.e. they wont just
be cosmetic.
LP: Will there be a difference in abilities for bowlers, like Shane Warne
will get more rip and turn than Shahid Afridi?
PS: Absolutely. This is critical and is something that will be
determined largely by player stats. It is a key concern for me that
player's stats will mean something and it will actually be noticable
when using different players. The same goes for batsmen and fielders.
LP: Will you continue to support and develop the game or will you 'drop
and run', like certain cricket games producers?
PS: Hehe. The intention has always been for this project to continuously develop and grow, so to answer the question, I intend to (with the community's help) continue the support through release of patches and updates, major and minor. This is all in addition to, of course, the intense period of bugfixing that will take place during alpha and beta testing.
LP: Will the name of the game use a year as the suffix, like The Cricket Project 2007?
PS: No, not at this stage. I feel that adding a yearly suffix has the following effect: i) insinuates that a new version will be released every year or so to bring in more money and ii) reduces the 'timeless' feel of the name, meaning it would forever be remembered for that old age year it was released, making it feel dated very quickly.
