PC Cricket Manager

At his best Gilchrist > Sangakkara by a country mile.

Today, with Gilly nearing the end, Sangakkara is better.

Anyway, I won't type up a whole spiel but:

Vics announce skipper

Victoria today announced that former Australian skipper and the 2nd greatest ever runs scorer (but obviously better than Lara anyway) Allan Border will skipper the Victorian's in the new PC Cricket League. Border was voted in by his peers, surprising many by pipping out Steve Waugh, a highly regarded former skipper himself. Waugh himself told reporters that Border was the best captain he ever served under (OK, I stole it from his autobiorgraphy), and that he was happy with the decision. Waugh will be vice captain for the series.

Opening batsman Graeme Smith naturally fronted the media, saying that his side would win, in his usual cocky manner:

"We're definitely expecting to claim the league, we have a great mix of former and current greats, a mean batting side with some of the greatest One Day batsmen ever and some great former and current bowlers. Not only that, but we have me, and I'm not even captain. That's how good we are. Allan Border will make a fine captain, and I will be happy to give him some advice when he wants it, and also when he doesn't want. No wonder those Aussies love me so much."

Border said he was proud to be appointed captain by his peers, and said that he was looking forward to the season:

"I'm very excited to begin this, and even though I'm not a Victorian, I feel like Bill Lawry after Merv Hughes or Shane Warne had picked up a hat trick. Stephen (Waugh) is a great leader too, and he and I will be excited to lead this side to victory. I will make sure that we do not let down the state of Victoria down. We are also very happy with our new manager, Dean Sherr, who is a terrific guy and has been behind me and Stephen every step of the way."

He certainly has.

Virtuals face stern task getting into Guyana's 20/20 XI

Today, Jack Teague manager of Guyana Cricket Club announced that it will be tough for the virtual players get a place in the legend studded line-up. For the first Twenty 20 Cup game 3 of the 4 virtuals have been left out. With the side packed with many cricketing legends it is certainly going to be tough for the virtuals. Teague stated that the lack of pace bowlers forced him to select the quicky for the first round of the Twenty 20 Cup. Graham Gooch is set to captain the Guyanan side for their first game with Pakistani legend Imran Khan as vice captain. Alec Stewart has been selected over the virtual Tinkletoes to stand behind the stumps. Damien Fleming, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Yousuf and Kapil Dev make Guyana a very strong batting side on what will be a flat pitch. McGrath, Sinatra and Imran Khan make up the seamers and Dev, Qadir and Kambli play as the spinners. With such a strong side in all 3 areas, Guyana will be a tough side to beat when they face Leicestershire in the first round of the Twenty 20 Cup later this week.

Titans announce Collingwood as captain

Ben Manning, newly appointed coach of the Titans, stood alongside Paul Collingwood at a press conference today where he announced Paul would be his captain for the upcoming Twenty20 tournament.
The announcement may surprise some, given that Paul has had only a few games captaining his national ODI squad. However, Mr. Manning obviously feels he is the right man for the job.

In other Titan-related news, Andre Nel has told reporters he is relishing the prospect of bolwling to batting greats such as Viv Richards and Adam Gilchrist in the upcoming Twenty20 match vs. Western Australia, "It will be a good test for me to bowl against 2 batsmen I have always respected." he said. "If I can get it right, though, I am fairly confident of success."

Unfortunately the local youngsters Houszmandatez, Tickler and Scott haven't been seleted for this opening game, but if they work hard, Ben Manning hasn't ruled out the possibility of them joining Golfer in the 1st XI.

Lancashire play down One Day chances

Despite being one of the favourites to win the One Day and Twenty20 tournaments, Lancashire coach Chez has said there is no pressure on their team to win. He said he expects Lancashire to be a more dominant force in the Test competition with their top stars like Younis Khan and Marcus Trescothick. "I don't believe our team are really suited to the one-day game. The batting line-up is not as good in that form of the game and so I expect us to prioritise the Test competition. All the pressure is on the other teams to come and beat us." It is unsure whether this is just mind games or whether this is truly what the Lancashire management think.

Leewards Islands too chilled to comment

Despite the best attempts at obtaining the latest news on who would take over the Leeward Island captaincy the Island Express continues to draw a blank.

Rumour has it that the players are all far too laid back to sort out things such as a captain and are just happy to go along with the flow. We did try to get a word with top bowler Franklyn Nimbrint but sadly we lost him in the haze of smoke that normally accompanies him.

In other news it has been confirmed that the local Rum company, Mambios Dark Spirits, will be named as the new team sponsor, providing someone can be bothered to sign the paperwork.

NSW Too Cool For School

With the county teams all announcing the skippers and positions, NSW decided they may aswell announce S.Ganguly as captain.

In other news they reject comments that they are less chilled than Leeward Islands, Club coach Barrow said, "Its hard to be so cool over here in Aussieland, but we manage to keep up a high standard, and are definatly cooler, and more chilled, than Leeward,"

More news later!

Favourites? Not likely, a rush of betting followed Graeme Smith's comments to get on the Victorian bandwagon. Oh, and I believe that it's First Class, not Test, we aren't international bodies after all.

I forgot to brag about having the biggest ground. Oh well.

The game counts us as Test teams, so they are Tests

Who cares about your ground? It isn't like your team can fill it

Hey, I'll have you know that Victoria manages an average of about 5,000 fans in a 100,000 capacity stadium, just as in real life. Enjoy your pathetic Old Trafford, because we have the greatest stadium on earth and we don't even need it!

Cold As Ice

Seeking a response to the comments made by the NSW squad, the Island Express were invited to witness the extreme chilledness of the Leeward team first hand.

From the moment we arrived at the team HQ (located behind the local Mr. Frostie kiosk) it was evident that we had stumbled upon the 'Heroes of Absolute Zero'. Despite temperatures hitting the high 90's several players had to be thawed before a rather nippy training session could begin.

Players were run through their paces for around an hour before moving onto the important topic of how to swagger. For this a certain Chris Gayle boogied his way in and worked with the squad. Due to the secret nature of his technique we were ushered out of the ground and dumped upon a rather laconic member of the staff explained (in his slow laid back drawl) that they were attempting ground breaking moves and hence nothing was being left to chance. With that we were slid out of the HQ but not without the promise of a preview ringing in our ears.

As always check in with the Island express for all the news on the Leeward Islands and their journey to the stars.

NSW Will Swagger Leeward Right Back Home!

Coach Barrow has quickly snapped back at Captain Tom's claims that they can swagger better than the NSW team.

Barrow asked Leeward to challange his apperently very "chilled," team to a swagger contest before they kick off there first game in a few weeks time!

More news later to wether the very bizarre competition is to go ahead!

Rhys is this continuing? If not I would be more than happy to take over if you sent me the correct things needed :)
