So less is more?
Not always, too little can end up bland and sometimes someone can execute something with a huge amount of effects and have it work out to be fantastic. If you begin to start thinking 'what more can I do', you've probably got enough.

It certainly isn't something you can say firmly one way or the other on. The best guide is thinking about how strong your stock is as a shot. If you have a great image you are working off, you don't need to do as much with it.

Something I'll add is that you should use less effects on an avatar and wallpaper than you would on sigs. For avatars that's because detail gets lost in the small space, and for wallpapers purely because you don't want something really busy as a background (makes it hard to see icons and the like).

Don't desperate to win me :p

TBH, more than finding out the results, I'm keen on starting next weeks entry.

Yeah ditto to what Matt has said. I've not rated a particular week until now, but when I do so, I'll do it like he does. I apply the same principle when I start creating my works. I just want my work to look neat, good and presentable. I am not that sort of a person who keeps on adding textures to his work, only because he wants to increase the number of layers he's used. I believe in what Gazza says - 'Less is more'. That's the reason I've improved heaps from when I started making graphics. I guess I've mentioned it earlier in one of the threads.

Thanks for the very useful post Matt.

PS : Two ratings now. Matt and Naresh. Neo is viewing this thread from a long time, so I expect he'll be sending the rating soon as well. Also, I've VM'ed Leggie to remind him.

You don't need millions of layers Pranav, a one simple huge fancy chunk of a texture is enough. :p

Well yeah, There is a life but in due regards to the competition, Inactive judges can be De-listed. Not to put a spike into the Judges panel's toes, but to rely on the judges' activity, this is needed.

Why don't you guys put up a vote system like the one which is there for Story of the Month?

They were all pretty active last season. We can't delist them just because they got late for a week or two. Though, I'll temporarily remove Nick from the panel. He hasn't been active since a long while and I don't expect him to be. If he does become active, I'll add him later.

Ha Ha. We had this system for the entire first season and for 4-5 weeks of the second. It ended up being abused by the people. People just used to PM their friends and asked them to vote for themselves. This resulted in upside down results from what was expected. If you go back about 30-40 pages back, you'll probably get to see some of the heated conversations we had at that time. Since then this system was put in place. And, for the fact, it has been giving quite good results.

That you tell, mate. Not everybody have the kind of ears to listen to it.
