Pepsi Cup II has officially begun!
Each of the ten association teams from last year have been split into two city-based teams, of which, the higher-profile team will be retained by the association manager from last season, unless they willingly choose to select a different team (like
@pillowprocter, who has shunned Multan Tigers to pick Rawalpindi Rams).
With the competition now being a twenty-team affair, ten teams will play in the Championship Division which will be for the Pepsi Cup and have postseason playoffs, and then the ten lower-profile teams will play in the National Division where they'll be vying to get promoted to the Championship Division at the end of the season.
Squads have also been shuffled greatly, with the associations now disbanded, players will only play for their own city or the city closest to their city. Squad rules have also changed a teeny tiny bit, squads will now comprise 22 players, of which a minimum of 15 will be local players and a maximum of 7 overseas players. And unlike last year, teams will also be allowed to field 4 overseas players in a game. To make teams with dire squads (like Gilgit Baltistan Markhors, managed by Me) a little more competitive, another lineup rule will be imposed where teams will be allowed to field a fifth overseas player if they have four or more players of a gold or lesser tier.
To make selection of local players easy for people not in the knowhow of Pakistan cricket, players have also been assigned tiers based on
various factors. Their cricinfo profiles have also been linked to the team pages so picking the local squad is a much easier task on the manager's part. For overseas players, a draft will be held.
Karachi and Lahore are the only teams with player pools robust enough to support two separate teams. So, they get two separate teams. Both teams will share the local pool from their city, and the local squads for each side will be decided via separate dedicated drafts between the two Karachi teams and the two Lahore teams.
