OUT! Can you believe it! Aisea Atiola inside edges it, trying to work it down to third man for a single as the partnership which was building up quite nicely is brought to a screeching halt by Pramod Krishnakumar, finding the much-needed breakthrough for India. Niue's scoring rate is pretty decent for a final, but they keep on losing wickets!

Vijay Kambli's decision to bowl first on this beautiful batting wicket after winning the toss paid off in spades, as Niue, the best batting side of the tournament, folded over for a below-par 232 against India's clinical bowling attack. Milkha Singh in particular had a day to remember, delivering his best bowling performance of the tournament and finishing with figures of 3/26. For Niue, Rata Tui, Aisea Atiola and Jayson Okesene were in a league of their own compared to the rest of the team, and yet, only Okesene managed to score a half-century while Tui and Atiola were dismissed in 40s. India have more or less won this final in the first innings alone, but their batting has been wobbly all tournament, and that might inspire some confidence in Niue's bowlers to do the unthinkable and defend 233 against India on a batting-friendly Auckland wicket.

Terrible instincts shown by Subrata Chatterjee to not run for a single on the last ball off the previous over, and all of India's worst fears are realized as Zeeshan Khan, India's number eleven, fails to face the music of Aika Enoka, Niue's highest wicket-taker of the tournament, as Niue find the final wicket and crown themselves World Champions!

INDIA 211 36.2 overs

Niue won by 21 runs

Man of the match: Duken Talaiti (Niue)

Absolute scenes in the middle as Niue overcome the mighty Indians in the World Cup Final to become the inaugural World Cup winners, etching their name in history forever as ODI cricket's first great nation. Among their greats, the name of Dalton Nemani is of particular importance, as it was his runs topped the scoring charts in the World Cup, inspiring Niue in their eventual triumph. And for this, he has been rightly adjudged the Player of the Tournament, even if he failed to score big in the final.
