I would like to have a piccie of my fave cricketer as my avatar. How do you know if a piccie that you see on a webpage is copyrighted? Does it say or does it have a little "c" in a circle?

you can use any picture mate. Normally copyright infringements only apply if you claim the work is your own or you use it for financial gain without a license.

As the member who responded to your post claimed, you shouldn't be worrying about copyright infringement in cases like this unless you plan to make a bunch of avatars and sell them on a CD or as a download or something.

When it comes to the actual photos, most people don't put a copyright symbol on their photograph though there is usually some sort of copyright note accompanying a photograph. You would notice this in many Cricinfo published photographs.

If you actually want to actually buy the photos and a license to use them commercially, you will be able to go to the noted photographer/licenser's website (such as Getty images) and purchase them there. You will probably notice that from a website that sells rights to photographs, they will put a watermark on their photo so that it cannot just be saved and used.

The only photo I can find online (he is obviously a popular player)!! has a
"viewimages" watermark whotsit on it. Could I use it as an avatar?

Why not request a cool avvy in Signature and Avatar threads. There are some good designers like USY, KBC, KX or Ivan that will help you.

Who is the player?

You can pretty much use any photo as an avatar on PC unless it's offensive. I'm pretty sure there's not too much money to be made by suing a free cricket forum.

Do yar.Take whatever photo you want..Nobody care about copyright..If you use any of photo in your avvi nobody claim you...
