Piano tips/sheet music

Thanks Steve,

I just need to play it slowly for a few hours and then I wont have those awkward pauses. Was just trying to play at the tempo for the video so I dont bore you to death with a 3 minute version :laugh

My hands already feel better and more comfortable so hopefully that only improves.

As for the dog, he might as well be my tail. Follows me everywhere!

Ha ha!

One other thing, I remembered from my lessons. It seems obvious, but read ahead. Some of the chords in this piece are so beautiful that you just want to linger on each one, but then along comes the next one and your hands are not in position! So, after playing each chord, read where the next one's coming and get your hands ready. That, combined with slowing it down, will eliminate the pauses. My Schindler's really coming along now - I'm so pleased this thread was made - it was just what I needed to get me back into piano! Maybe before too long, I'll be able to put piano and guitar on my performing arts CV!

Good to hear about your hands feeling more comfortable - that can only mean you're doing something right. :)

That final section looks tricky, eh? ;)

Do you mean the middle section? at the end of the video I posted I play the first few measures of it, Im working on it now, its tough because of the two different beats each hand is playing.

Really want to hear you playing! You dont have a digital camera?

Wow! Cap'n! You too!!!! This place is full of surprises! Nice piano. I have just an acoustic piano: I have always struggled on electric ones for some reason. The keys don't feel right for me. What kind of things do you enjoy playing??

Love songs, they're the best to play and that's what a piano is for IMO

Although, some of my favourite piano music don't necessarily have to be romantic. For example, "That's just the way it is" by Bruce Hornsby is the highest of quality piano pieces

Good stuff Hmarka, you are learning and improving quickly.

After trying to set up my 5 year old camcorder that has been sitting in the cupboard for years, I inevitably failed and it doesn't seem to recognise being connected to the computer. So, no videos for now. I just finished learning the song New York by Eskimo Joe and was pretty keen to upload it, but ah well. :(

Nope, but what I could do is have my mate film me when he next comes round - his mobile phone is basically a camera phone. Might do Saturday to watch the Everton game. The middle section looks tough because of all those semi quavers, but the ending has lots of chords in the right hand, as well as the left - quaver chords, so you've really got to move your fingers. Still, should be fun. I might dig out the book that came with my piano - it has 50 classical pieces and there are a few that I think I can play. :)

Edit: Can you quieten it down a bit, or is that just the recording quality? Or doesn't it come out well enough if quieter? It says 'mp' on the music which stands for 'mezzo piano' - fairly quiet.

Nice! I love playing Beatles songs and Boogie Woogie (Jerry Lee Lewis and all that!) but I also like writing and playing my own songs and compositions.

Steven Ill record one right now and try to play quieter, the reason I was blasting the notes was so it picks up on the camera.

So I am now ready to tackle another project along side Schindlers List since that is almost 80% done.

Ok so I recorded playing softer and having the volume on the piano down but it still sounds the same and I think I know why. I have the bloody camera sitting on the speaker! :facepalm

Anyways, I still uploaded the attempt because it was one of my better ones and I play the start of the middle bit.

Hmarka added 0 Minutes and 29 Seconds later...

Its still processing so It might take a few minutes to work.

Do you play as well, Jkartik? Do we have another member of our little club? :)

That middle bit is coming along nicely! (I think my piano teacher would kill me if she heard me talking like this - correct name for middle bit is 'bridge', I think, or sometimes middle eight, but there aren't eight bars in it, so I don't think it applies in this case.) Your hands have flattened out again a bit...

No dog this time. :)

Dog lying at the feet this time, Ive played it a few times with absol no mistakes now :) Feels pretty good. I thought it would take me months to learn the first part!

Once I get the "bridge" down, the first part basically repeats with a slight variation at the end. That should be fairly easy to learn I think.

Good stuff. Piano can be like that sometimes - you think you're never going to get it and then one day, it all just clicks.

You have to upload it on a file sharing site and then post the link

RapidShare is a decent one

Or you could use movie maker and make the mp3 into a video and post that on youtube.

Did you listen to that song I sent you Captain?

Yeah sure did. It was bloody nice.

I like your progress by the way. Some of those Schindler's List chords require a big stretch between thumb and little finger on the left hand, but it looks like you've got it worked out.

I'll try your suggestions. I have 2 songs I recorded. I used to have my Schindler's List one as well, but it got lost when my laptop harddrive died.
