Piano tips/sheet music

Yea when I first played the D- F stretch across an entire octave my hand was like "are you tweaking kidding bro?"

I have managed to find my '50 greats for Piano' book that came with my Clavinova and there are several in here I can have a go at:

Gavotte - J.S. Bach
Menuett G Dur BWV.Anh.114 - J.S. Bach
Menuett G dur - W.A. Mozart
Little Serenade - J. Haydn

and a few others, but there are also loads that are way out of my league! :)

I'm going to alternate between a couple of them and Schindler's List - as I don't want the latter getting stale.

Do you play as well, Jkartik? Do we have another member of our little club? :)

naah...although i love the piano and would like to learn it at some point in my life.

the 3 instruments that i badly want to learn are

1) Guitar
2) Violin
3) Piano

i have already learnt some basics of the violin and can play some easy songs with lil bit of vibrato as well..;)

Yea when I first played the D- F stretch across an entire octave my hand was like "are you fliping kidding bro?"

I can't reach that stretch at all, so I just omit the bottom note. Doesn't hurt the piece too much.

You could try to roll it?

and its a good idea to practice something else, otherwise it can feel cumbersome to learn music. I am working on "River flows into you" and "yesterday" while I am perfecting Schindler's list.

Hope to have my "recital" video up in a week or so. Almost have the song nailed.

How far have you come along Steve?

I'm not playing much right now - the auditions for drama school begin for me on Saturday, so I'm focused on them.

Just had to add this though - no piano thread would be complete without it:

Q. What do you get if you drop a piano down a mine shaft?
A. A Flat Minor.

An oldie, but a goodie! :laugh

Lol,

Steve did you listen to that youtube video I posted. Yiruma -River flows in you

I have been learning that as well, coming along rather nicely!

I have taken a stab at learning River Flow into You by Yurima , will post my progress tomorrow.

BTW I know 90% of Schindler's List now, just a bit tired of playing it so taking a break.

is it just me or do you ever experience that thing where if you keep practicing a particular song over and over again, you tend play it crappier after reaching a saturation point ?? and your like "fearsome tweak IT! am never gonna play it the way i want to."
but then you give it a shot after say a day or two and then BANG...
its the best you've played till now...LOL!

It was like that for me with Clocks. Tried for weeks, and couldn't do it. Then a couple of months later gave it ago and played it almost flawlessly.

I idolise Chris Martin.

I always find that I am better the next day, ridiculously improved sometimes. I think this is simply because I am learning the instrument and am starting to grasp certain techniques.

Anyways listen to this song if you havent already

Im trying to learn it, have gotten to the chorus so far.

It would be impossible on guitar. Piano has both the Treble and Bass clefs where as on guitar you can only play one at a time, especially an electric.

Thats the whole reason a piano sounds so complete, the instrument can hold its own, a guitar by it self usually does not sound that great, unless the person is singing or playing classical.

Found a guitar version, it sounds awful compared to the piano
