I'm not so sure, I'd have a strong word with him and tell him his place on the Ashes plane depends on his performances in the ODIs. He might find runs in county cricket, but frankly what does that ever prove?!? I'd rather he was facing half decent bowling and proving he's worth his place, just sending him back to the counties in my book is just a way of not letting him fail on the big stage publically and make his selection in the Ashes squad less hard to argue against.
At the moment he is thinking he will be in the next Test squad, he's probably right. I'd insist he proves his form where everyone can see it - do or die. But the selectors want to hide him and his form away from the public eye, less controversy. Dropping him from the Test team/squad would be kick up the Rs he needs
