A little help please!

At the toss I have no idea if I should be batting first or bowling first and usually get a scolding from the commentator on my choice! What factors should I be considering?

On a related note, I read that dusty, cracked pitches favour spinners so on the lineups I selected two spinners and opted to bowl first - then got told off. Again, what pitch types should I be looking for to determine my squad selections and bowling tactics?

I suppose this is easy stuff if you watch a lot of cricket but I'm a newcomer to the sport. The answer is probably going to be a thousand pages long!

I wouldn't listen to the commentators, they chat rubbish! However you have to consider that a pitch may deteriorate and you will have to bat last on it if bowling first!

Here's my own general rules:

Pristine = Bat first. Unless it's grassy and cloudy, then think about it and bat first anyway.
Wearing = Bat first as pitch will deteriorate
Uneven = Usually bowl first. Although I'm not sure if an uneven pitch will flatten out as the game goes on, anyone know?
Worn= if dusty/crumbly/dry then bat, if grassy bowl.

I'm not too bothered by cracks as I don't notice them doing much.

So basically except Uneven and Grassy-Worn batting first is the ideal choice.

I mean, this is just my personal preference really. Don't take it as gospel as I'm not exactly sure how all the pitches change throughout the game.

Also in t20/OD games I'm much more likely to bowl first because I like having a target to chase.

No Problem. I dont have any intention to play DBC17 anymore atm ;)
