Defending champions Italy kicked off their World Cup campaign with an easy 3-0 win over South American opponents Chile. Giuseppe Rossi opened the scoring for the Azzurri in 29th minute when he was put through one on one with the keeper Claudio Bravo by Andrea Pirlo. The American born striker - Giuseppe Rossi made it two, just three minutes before half when he headed in a cross from Mauro Camoranesi. And in the 69th minute Giampaolo Pazzini wrapped up the game for the champions with an easy tap-in from 4 yards.

MoTM: Giuseppe Rossi

New Zealand v Serbia @ The Free State Stadium

New Zealand 1 | Chris Wood 44
Serbia 1 | Nikola Zigic 24
Att: 45,368
Ref: Jonathan Larranaga

World Cup underdogs New Zealand and Serbia shared the spoils at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein with an 1-1 draw. Valencia striker Nikola Zigic gave the Serbians the lead in 24th minute when he deflected a Dejan Stankovic shot from the edge of box past keeper Glen Moss. But just before half time, Chris Wood - the West Brom Albion player - equalised for the Kiwis as he took advantage of some poor marking by Aleksandar Lukovic to head in a corner past Vladimir Stojkovic. Milos Krasic who came as a substitute in the second half for the Serbians had a shot cleared on the line by Ryan Nelsen and was followed by a double save by keeper Glen Moss in dying minutes.

MoTM: Glen Moss

Hmm, New Zealand manage to get a draw there. Good keeping from Glem Moss then to keep Serbia to 1 goal. I still prefer Paston over Moss.

You spelt Johannesburg wrong as well. It's 2 n's and 1 s, not 2 s' and 1 n.

Liked the look of my WPL presentation then Shan? ;)

Comfortable win for Italy as you'd expect but a surprise result in the second game. Who knows, maybe we'll have an upset in that group.

Netherlands v Denmark @ Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth.

Netherlands 1 | Klaas-Jan Huntelaar 90+2.
Denmark 1 | Simon Kjaer 40.
Ref: Michael Weiner.
Att: 47,592.

Netherlands earn a draw against battling Denmark after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's injury goal cancel's out Simon Kjaer opener just before half time. Simon Kjaer gave Denmark the lead in the 40th minute when he headed home a corner from Martin Jorgensen. Daniel Agger was denied a goal when his header from another Martin Jorgensen was blocked by Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg after it crossed the line, but the referee did not hive the goal. But just one minute of injury time to go Klaas-Jan Huntelaar punished some sloppy defending by Denmark.

MoTM: Simon Kjaer.

North Korea v Ivory Coast @ Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

North Korea 1 | Pak Tae-Yoon 39.
Ivory Coast 3 | Drogba 30, 79, Dindane 83.
Ref: Gao Qiang.
Att: 62,567.

Late goals from Didier Drogba and Aruna Dindane handed Ivory Coast a comfortable victory over North Korea in Johannesburg. Ivory Coast took the lead from a free-kick which was flicked on by Saloman Kalou leaving Drogba a simple tap-in. North Korea drew level when Pak Tae-Yoon pounced on a loose ball after a flap by goalkeeper Ibrahima Kone. But Ryang Myong-II's dithering on the ball allowed Aruna Dindane to play in Drogba, who tucked away Ivory Coast's second before Dindane turned scorer with a free header.

MoTM: Didier Drogba.

Ghana v Costa Rica @ Loftus, Pretoria.

Ghana 1 | Asamoah Gyan 21.
Costa Rica 0 |
Ref: Lee Mason.
Att: 49,589.

Ghana opened their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought Group B victory over Costa Rica in Pretoria. Stade Rennais FC striker Asamoah Gyan scored the only goal after 21 minutes, sliding the ball under Manrique Alfaro following a flick-on from Matthew Amoah. With Gyan always probing and Sulley Muntari running the show in midfield, the Africans were coasting at half-time. And despite a more upbeat display from Costa Rica after the break, Ghana were good value for their win.

MoTM: Sulley Muntari.

Dispappointed with that result and it could've been even worse had it not been for our keeper or Huntelaar.

Just one thing Shan, surely the Ghana-Costa Rica game would be before Ivory Coast-Korea because we are in the same group as them. Just thought I'd mention it, though it's not that important.
