Dunno what the England team would look like,
we can exclude india, pakistan and bangladesh and australian test team

which Team would be the best right now if players were only allowed to play for the country they were born in?

i reckon south africa would be 2nd best after australia(kp,strauss-any more?)

Australia
South Africa
Pakistan
India
the rest i have no idea but can bet england will be way down the list

englands odi team would be quite good too with symonds playing in it

makes no sense really.
home is where heart is ?

Nobody can stop a player from playing for a team with whom he wants to be.

Also, we never know whether the players would have ever played for their `real nation` .
Do you think Monty would ever had played for India ahead of Kumble or Bhajji even if he had wanted to play for India ?
same with KP as well .

So you're saying that had Shane Warne's parents been on holiday in New Zealand when he was born he'd only be allowed to play for NZ and not Aus?
We live in a multicultural society and its fair and right that players can choose who they play for as long as they have relatives.

Well seeing as he was born in Luton he wouldn't be allowed to play for India

Totally agree. The only one who I question is Ed Joyce!

Possible England team without those born in other countries:
Trescothick
Cook
Vaughan (c)
Bell
Collingwood
Flintoff
Read/Davies/Foster
Panesar/Giles
S Jones (note that it is the England and Wales cricket board)
Harmison
Hoggard

That still looks pretty good to me Gambino.

If this was true gambino, then it would be one quick way of getting Geraint Jones out of Fletchers mind for good ;)

some good teams

please guys

theres a "IF" here too,
just discuss what the teams would look like and not give lectures about it "this wouldnt be right and blah blah"(We Already Know!!)

I was going to say that! :p Maybe he could play for Papua New Guinea

You should be able to play for any country that you are a national of, or one where you have lived for a long time. You should not be able to play for one country and then switch. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone like Ed Joyce can play for England after playing 50 times for Ireland, and even could play for England in the World Cup when he played for Ireland in the qualifiers!

Anyway, to the topic in hand, most teams wouldn't change that much. England would lose 2 or 3 players. We won games before Pietersen was in the side and we'd win without him.

Some teams would improve too. Symonds in the England team would be great. Just think if Portugal were allowed to pick a player of Mosies Henriques calibre. It would lift the entire teams game.

To this and everyone, that's not up for debate. This is an 'if' situation.
I'd say...a lot of the non-test nations.

What a pointless topic, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle

how can wales and england form 1 team and scotland arent allowed to join in?

even ireland
Ireland is a special case, as most of it is a completely different country. There is zero chance of the Irish republic joining in with the UK.

Scotland used to be part of the England team until 1994, when they left to give their players more oppurtunity. Now Scottish players have to fulfil a residential qualification to play for England. For many years the England team was a UK team, although that is no longer the case.

The question then arises: why not have a UK team now?

This would be impossible, as the Northern Ireland players are quite happy playing in the all-Ireland team. Also, there is much more constitutional separation between Scotland and England than there is between England and Wales. (Colin might know more about that than me though!)
