why dont india and pakistan teams merge?

they were same 50 odd years ago too

boy that team would be unstoppable

That would be the same as saying why not merge every team in the world cause they were the same millions of years a go.

And do you know why they were together 50 odd years ago? More like 60 actually....

Because they were one country then.

If you don't know what you're talking about, it might be best to stay out of the discussion.

Technically England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are constituencies(sp?) of The United Kingdom of Great Britain.

India and Pakistan are seperate countries whereas, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland aren't.

Not sure on NI though actually, but does anyone? :D

btw,

are there any good welsh players?

wales might have a good team u know,

i think alex wharf was welsh too right?

or am i mixing him up with someone else?

Not sure where you're getting the word "constituency" from. Eng/Wales/Scotland/NI are also countries in their own right who just happen to have the same monarch and seperate political unions binding them together (Wales - 1284;Scotland - 1707; Ireland - 1801). The ways in which sports allow and don't allow people to represent them has no consistency or logic.
You will have noticed that Scotland, as the most "independent" of the four countries plays alone for football and cricket (and won't be part of the British Olympic team in 2012).
Picking up on Andrew's point Scotland has notable legal differences with England such as legal and ecclesiastical ones as well as having a totally different education system. Wales, having been absorbed rather than joined the union, has barely any legal differences (two languages being the only one I can think of).
Going back to the topic and ignoring the ridiculous premise it might affect the NZ rugby team but not really the England cricket team.

Most of them play for Glamorgan - the "Welsh" county. Robert Croft and Simon Jones would be the most notable in recent years.

I don't think theres any Kiwis playing for other counties at the moment nor is there anyone from other countries playing for New Zealand. I think that Sincalir possibly is from Australia though.

Edit, yep I was right. Born in Aussie. Still he wouldn't be in their side anyway.

south africa would be pretty good if they had pietersen, probably number 2. but they are still one or two bowlers short of being able to topple a batting line up like Australia's.

it's hard to see england in the top 5 test teams without pietersen and strauss.

Except we got to Number two without KP ;) We were in our purple patch without KP, in fact we've actually got worse since his first series against Australia because our bowling attack hasn't looked as dangerous since.

Funny thing with Strauss is that he only got into the team due to injuries breaking up the fantastic Vaughan and Tresco partnership. Once Strauss got his chance he just didn't let up and made himself undroppable, unfortunately his last year in test cricket hasn't quite been up there with his first year.

With KP as well, in Pakistan and India he really wasn't anything special, and far too many people spent most of the time complaining that he gave his wicket away too often and too cheaply. Last few months though he has begun to look world class and not just very good, seems to love playing the Aussies!

I thought for a country to be a country in it's own right it had to have it's own government and own army?

Eng might loose KP, Strauss and Monty but would gain Symmonds and would not be able to play G Jones, so it's not all bad!
