For me the Lukaku transfer was an order of magnitude worse.
Barcelona lost Neymar to a world record fee due to an absurd release clause having got several good seasons from him and Neymar hasn’t really made them regret his absence since. Coutinho was also someone who loved the club, gave them a few decent performances and on paper was the Iniesta replacement but suffered from just poor management when he was there. He’s also since moved on.
Lukaku on the other hand was someone Chelsea chose to let go, played for their rivals, signed for a massive fee and has tanked any resale value by performing horrendously on his return and trash talking the club and manager. He wasn’t even a fit for Chelsea’s system prior to the signing and it made zero sense to have invested so much in him to not attempt any further move towards playing in a manner helping him.

Chelsea however are just a proper sporting structure and manager away from becoming a top club again. Most of their recent signings are excellent on paper despite the high fees and with the Premier League almost guaranteed five Champions League spots a couple of seasons later, they’re well poised to knock both Liverpool and Tottenham out of that top five.
