Pro Evolution 2008!

Don't know why, but my PC doesn't want to boot into safe mode at the moment. I'll try again tomorrow after it's had a long rest and do a proper cold boot.

Edit: Are you sure it's a superpatch? Sounds a bit small to me, it's only 8mb, the big patches for PES 6 weighed in at over 200mb. Also, PC users, has anyone seen any evidence of this 'Teamvision' thingie? Does the AI really adapt to your style, or is that feature over-hyped? I won't be able to see for myself for around a week, that's probably how long it'll take for my faulty copy to be returned/processed/re-delivered...

I think the term Superpatch is used as a passing statement - its more or less a collection of all the kits and logos so far.

A lot of people have complained about TeamVision, and it took me a long time to notice it myself. Of course, you're so busy playing it is tough to notice if a team is really adapting. So, I took a video of a game, and being the sad act I am watched it during my break from revision. Its not until you look at the game whilst not controlling that you see the differences. The little overlaps, players pulling shirts, players raising hands to call for the ball, and most importantly, the AI seemingly being intelligent. I'm an avid user of the pressure button, and try and close down, playing very much down the centre. It wasnt til I thought about it afterwards until I realised that the AI had scored both there goals by getting the ball out wide and switching there wingers.

So, its probably right for you to make your own mind up. But I think that the AI in the game is far superior to any that I have seen in any previous sport simulation.

Good luck with safe mode :)

I just finished my Master League season and what a season it was!

Lost the second leg of the D2 Cup Semi final 1-0 with a goal in stoppage time, making the aggregate score 2-2, they won 1-0 on away goals.

Morale was low after that, dropping 4 points in the league. Beat River Plate 5-0, then found out the other teams above me had lost - leaving me 3rd with one game to go. I needed to win it, I did, and I was promoted in 2nd place!

Down to the wire.

I remember, when I said I was going to buy PES 2008, you said that I would only play it for ten minutes and then label it as rubbish again, Madman. You can eat your words now!

There are some bugs, glitches and annoyances with the game however. The refereeing is too soft. Free kicks are awarded for the best of tackles and the referee likes the sound of his whistle too much.

The directions in which you can shoot, pass and lob are also limited. When I shoot, it can go miles off target in the opposite direction to the way I pointed the analog stick. The same with passing and lobbing. The player will turn around and boot it into touch when I aimed at a teammate.

I can put it down to the PS3 debut though. I am sure the directions problem will be sorted next time and the refereeing issue will be addressed too.

By the way, I am unbeaten in Division 1 of the Master League so far in the new season, with far too many draws. My only win was vs Dynamo Kiev, who were promoted with me last season. I am into the next round of the D1 Cup though after a 5-1 aggregate win over Sparta Rotterdam.

I am 2nd in D2 after 15 games as Aston Villa in Master League. I am coming towards the first negotiation period and will be looking to improve the wing backs and possibly a left winger. I didnt bother with using the master league default players, just stuck with the Villa Match Mode players. This game is awesome though, really enjoying it. Also, 4* is the perfect difficulty for me, not too hard, but not too easy either. Just really good fun. I just beat Fenerbache 4-0, my first real convincing win. 4 goals from John Carew.

Considering in Australia, FIFA 08 and PES 2008 are both around the $50 mark I might be getting myself both games this year :). When I went into my local game shop I picked up PES, just out of a bit of curiousity. I quite liked the look of the game. From memory Cristiano Ronaldo and Lucas Neil (Might only be the Australian version) were on the cover and when I turned to the back to see the screen shots I was mighty impressed. Kewell, Cahill, Neil, Bresciano and what I thought was Culina all looked pretty much 100% to their real life players. So this it looks like I will be getting FIFA 08 (I haven't gotten one since 06) and PES 2008, both which look like good games.

Nice one Leftie! I'm also eagerly awaiting both these games and come Christmas Day I will have them both ;)

50 Bucks? My arse! What shop?

Yeah, I got the game yesterday. It absolutely awesome. Although much of it is similar and there is a improvement in graphics etc, it still has the awesome gameplay.

Imagine Pro Evo with its current gameplay engine, FIFA graphics and all the licenses that the FIFA series currently has. That would be the best soccer game available.

It's just a shame EA Sports has the ability to buy all the licenses and drown out the competition.
