The Canadian Cricket Association (CCA) have announced Canada's 13-strong squad for the 1979 Cricket World Cup set to take place in England once again. The same core of players who helped them reach the 1979 ICC Trophy final, have been mostly retained with the exceptions of veteran Tariq Javed, Charles Baksh and Jitendra Patel.

Garnet Brisbane, who retired after leading Canada to the final in their ICC Trophy campaign, was tempted out of retirement by the CCA at the age of 40. Having since given up the reins of side to Bryan Mauricette, he will be playing on as a specialist bowler only.

Also making a comeback was the 35-year old Darrell Winterlik, who notably top-scored for British Colombia with 44 against an Australian team containing the likes of Jeff Thomson, Gary Gilmour, Max Walker and Ashley Mallett in their 1975 tour of the Canada.

Last but by no means least, West Indian opener Faoud Bacchus was included in the squad after missing out on selection in the West Indies' World Cup squad. Bacchus appeared in one match for the Canadian national team against the United States of America in 1977, and dominated their weak bowling attack with 95.
