Don't want to sound stupid or something but what's a PSD?

A file created in Photoshop which allows the user to go back and carry on work with all the layers.

Once finished, usually people save it as a differnt file type so we can upload them, but once saved as anything but PSD. file type the picture cannot be changed in any great way as the layers are merged.
