We went into lunch with the lads and Jimmy said we'd batted well on what was definatley a bowler's pitch. I was chatting to Trev and Watto about what the pitch was like. They both said that it was dusty, with movement and uneven bounce being on offer. I also spoke to Andy Bichel about what I could expect from my first game. He was telling me about just keeping it simple and not trying to hard because that's when you bowl wides and no-balls. Soon enough though, we had to go back out and I'd realised I'd not eaten anything in the 20 minutes for the lunch break, so I shoved a sausage roll down my gob and that would be that.

With the score on 23/0 off 9 overs, I was told to get loose cos Jimmy was bringing me on to bowl next over. I felt quite good surprisingly, as if there was no pressure on me and I could just do my stuff. I'd felt good in the nets prior to the game and just thought that nothing could go wrong.

1st over said:
0.1 Driven into the covers, good stop preventing at least 2 runs (no run)
0.2 Batsman on the front foot straight to the man in the covers again (no run)
0.3 Slighty slower ball, which was driven again into the covers (no run)
0.4 Wicket! A lovely yorker does the batsman for pace and he has no answer for it, middle stump goes flying.

Remaining 2 balls said:
0.5 Back foot on drive hit straight to the fielder at mid-on (no run)
1.0 Swinging delivery narrowly missing the outside edge of Hodge's bat (no run)

A wicket maiden over for my first ever over in Australian Domestic cricket, to say I was on a high was a huge understatement. Still, I had to concentrate and not rest upon what's good so far.

2nd over said:
1.1 Driven through the covers for a single (1 run)
1.2 Short ball which rose as it pitched and hits batsman on gloves (no run)
1.3 Driven through the covers once more to add another single (1 run)
1.4 Driven straight back to me, a slight nod from the batsman came my way (no run)
1.5 Wider of off stump and a play and missed cut shot which missed the bat by inches (no run)
2.0 Overstepped slighty for a no ball (1 run)
2.0 Offcutter left by Hodge, he's being watchful so far (no run)

Not giving too much away at this time, looking quite strong so far and the Watson is backing me up at the other end of the pitch with some tight bowling.

3rd over said:
2.1 Cut past point and a good stop from the man on the boundary stops an extra 3 runs (1 run)
2.2 Bowled him! I run off in excitement but Trev notices the umpire raising his arm for a no ball

I was absolutely gutted! We all had eyes on the big screen and it showed I was about 1 inch over the line. You will probably never know how tempting it was to clobber the umpire on my next run up...

Remaining 4 balls said:
2.2 Flicked off the pads for a single down to fine leg (1 run)
2.3 Driven to the covers a great diving stop (no run)
2.4 Flicked off the pads once more for another single to fine leg (1 run)
2.5 Slower ball, driven hard through the covers but a good chase from the outfielder prevents the 2nd run (1 run)
3.0 On drive to the fielder at mid on (no run)

I was extremely disappointed not to get my second wicket as I felt I'd deserved it, but I still have a job to do here and that's exactly what I have in mind.

38/1 off 15 overs

Yes great bowling Stu sounded like you really got it in the right areas.
Brilliant start and the batsman not looking comfortable and well behind the run rate :)

With the score at a measly 38/1 off the first 15 Stu came up to me and said that he thought he would be coming off and I would be on to bowl soon. I could tell Stu was tired and in need of a break. I tried to look interested at mid on and hoped the skipper would see me and bring me on. Stu bowled a very tight over conceding only 2 runs.

3.1 Driven to the covers (no run)
3.2 Straight drive to mid off (no run)
3.3 Short ball left (no run)
3.4 Forward defensive (no run)
3.5 Yorker dug out (no run)
4.0 No ball (1 run)
4.0 Cut away (1 run)

Stu was taken off after that over and at the end of the 19th over I was told to get warmed up as I was bowling the next over. I was so excited to be bowling as early as I was. As a sort of part time bowler, although I am a all-rounder, I was surprised to be told to bowl as early as the 20th over. But obviously Jimmy wanted everyone a good spell of bowling in this friendly and at 52/1 it was the perfect opportunity to bring me on.

All my stretching done and it was my turn to bowl. Jimmy came up to me and said just put it in the right areas and let the pitch do the work. Bic came up to me and said "Don't worry mate, just make sure you take a fifer." It made me laugh and with the field into position and the batsman ready I was off down to the crease.

0.1 Yorker driven (no run)
0.2 Driven through covers (2 runs)
0.3 On drive (no run)
0.4 Driven into the covers (no run)
0.5 Flick off pads (1 run)
1.0 Launched over mid on (6 runs)

I was annoyed with the last ball. Everything seemed fine although my line was a bit all over the place. First ball I thought I had him with a perfect yorker but he managed to just dig it out. The last ball was pretty much a leg stump half volley and he decided to try and go after me early. He succeeded in smashing my over mid on for a maximum. I went back to my fielding position fuming.

1.1 Attempted pull hit on chest (no run)
1.2 Straight drive to mid off (no run)
1.3 Pulled to square leg (no run)
1.4 Driven though covers (1 run)
1.5 Driven into covers (no run)
2.0 Slower ball, does to cut, caught at point (WICKET!)

Well my next over was the complete opposite. Bowled a few cracking deliveries including 1st ball hit straight in the ribs. they had only managed 1 run off 5 deliveries and I was just wanting a dot ball. I decided on my slower ball to get me that, but I miss-directed badly and it just sat up for Klinger to smash past point for four. He timed it to perfection but it went in the air towards Hayden at point. The ball flew quickly but he had picked out the point fielder perfectly and Hayden took a good catch just to his left. I was absolutely delighted and just ran down the wicket and pumped my fist whilst shouting "Come On!" I used to do that pretty much every wicket I took back in U-13/14/15 and this being my first ever wicket it was very special. Everyone congratulated me and Stu came up and said "You lucky bugger." Jimmy came up and said that now I had got the 2nd wicket he was going to bring me off and give Stu another run. Which was fine by me as I knew I was bowling a bit ropey and was probably to excited after taking that wicket. Now it was time for Stu to do his stuff...
