Rahul Dravid- Match Fixing a Crime

Rahul Dravid, a legend of the game, the most like batsman, for me, after Lara of the era declares that match fixing should be a criminal offence.

No member, doubt it can argue that Dravid was not one of the most honest, law abiding gentleman the game of cricket has ever seen. I personally respect this guy's opinion!

For once, completely agree with you about Dravid's honesty and his reputation as a gentleman!:thumbs

How about his opinion on match fixing? Do you agree that the culprits should be treated as criminals? Personally if it was up to me the perpetrators would all go to the gallows, whomever they be Pakistani, Indian, English or SA, match fixing is just outright disgusting!

I second you in this :)

Well since most of the perpetrators are either directly or indirectly connected to the Bigwigs of Board of Control for Corruption in India(BCCI), all of them would be out in a jiffy courtesy their influence and will continue to haunt the gentleman's game. So if you ask me what my stance is, yes I would want it to be made a criminal offence. But it should be enforced in full force, which doesn't even happen in the dreams here due to the above said point....

Yes its definitely a crime and they should pay the price severely.

I say this because i live in a society where sports betting is just so potent and i myself like to put on a cheeky bet every once in a while. If i had money on a sporting event that was being affected by match and spot fixing i would be absolutely livid if i lost money due to someone tanking.

It is not just against the laws of the game of cricket itself but also costing big betting agencies/betting public a lot of serious money.

I must have missed something, because isn't it a criminal offence already?!?!?!?

Personally I think the bookies get what they deserve, they offer spot bets like when a no ball will be bowled, or spread bets on runs scored etc, then they're asking for someone to exploit that.

Their own greed causes this, gambling should be totally illegal in every country and people caught gambling shoved in prison. They won't because of the ???? the governments make out of it, nothing new there. It is like the scum that do high interest "payday" type loans, and indeed any loan shark, like smoking which the government says is bad for you but won't ban, and car insurance where a lot of people like myself just give money for no service provided on the offchance I might have an accident and claim - I was hit by an uninsured driver, paid for the repairs myself and I don't see any gain in my premiums...............

People out to make easy bucks, that's why there are so many cigarette brands, insurers, bookies etc. That cricketers at the top levels succumb to greed themselves is a sad indictment of the ignorance of professional sportsmen who want more, more, more when they are lucky to be gifted and be on more money than some people can dream of making for doing something they love.
