Rahul Dravid says Good bye to International Cricket

A true legend and a true servant of Indian Cricket.

RD should get behind the commentary box. With the kind of hold he has over his communication skills, he could be a delight to hear from the commentary box. Imagine Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly commenting together in an India match? Will be delightful!:cheers

Here Are Rahul Dravid's Awesome Batting Records:

  • Second cricketer to reach 13000 runs in Test Cricket after Sachin Tendulkar.
  • When Rahul Dravid scored 54 against West Indies in the ongoing Test Series, he equalled Sachin Tendulkar record of most half centuries by and Indian Batsmen in Test.
  • Second highest run scorer in test (13262) behind only to Sachin Tendulkar (15432)
  • Highest run scorer in the 4th inning in test (1597).
  • Third player to score 12000 runs in test cricket.
  • Holds the world record of being involved in most century partnerships (87) in test.
  • With Sachin Tendulkar holds the world record of most century partnership (20).
  • Second longest streak of consecutive test matches since debut (94).
  • Equalled with Allan Bordedr in terms of number of half centuries (63) only behind Sachin Tendulkar (64).
  • Has scored century against each test playing nation while batting away from home.
  • Scored centuries in both the innings of the test twice. Sunil Gavaskar is the only Indian to achieve this feat thrice.
  • With 146* at Oval he overtakes Sunil Gavaskar tally of 34 centuries
  • Fourth in the list of number of centuries (36) in tests behind Ponting (39), Kallis (40) and Sachin (51).
  • Achieved the feat of scoring 3 centuries in a test series twice in England.
  • Became only the third Indian batsmen to remain unbeten throughout a completed inning in test.
  • Most deliveries faced in the history of test cricket (31029).
  • Highest number of runs by a No. 3 batsmen.

This, plus he has the highest number of catches under his belt and was involved in 75+ 100 run partnerships. What a man! This guy is truly, truly underrated.

I'm secretly hoping that this press conference is on behalf of Laxman, but I think that's beyond wishful thinking.

Will be a sad day for me and more importantly, Indian cricket.

Very sad day for me. One of India's best ever matchwinners.

I have been so lucky to grow up watching Rahul Dravid bat, and more importantly conduct himself both on and off the field. Could not have asked for a better role model growing up.

Wishing him all the best in his life ahead. Hopefully he will come back and serve Indian cricket in other forms sometime in the future.

Will be greatly missed.

Probably the best role model in World Cricket atm. The one Indian batsman who I have always respected and admired. A true gentleman. Deserves a better farewell, hope he gets one more series.

BCCI will arrange a farewell match for him against the Kiwis.

Is that true Slick? Glad to hear it. My local club could do with a solid number 3 if he fancies it :p

We can offer some sarnies that are often made with vaguely stale bread, some basics sausage rolls from tescos, and if it's a good day and the captain's Missus is feeling generous, some tasty cakes :)

Oh, I'll buy him a coke each week as well. Or a beer. But only one.

Dravid officially retires from International and domestic cricket!

I am not able to digest this to be honest. He was the only player whom India can rely outside of subcontinent and when India were in trouble. Arguably the best 1 down player from what I have seen. I will miss him whenever I am writing Indian Test Squad. It was pleasure to see him in Test Squad. True gentlemen, never complained about his records overshadowed by his following team mates. He was the guy who teach India how perform well outside home and filled confidence in new players. He will be the perfect idle for any youngster. The only batsman which I always loved and trusted his batting in Test Cricket even with all his failures. Goodbye Jammy, we are going to miss you :wave. All the best for your future.
