Who Should be the next Indian coach

Interesting. There is no questioning his commitment and integrity - thats for sure. Plus he never had a glory hog kind of personality and will be willing to work in the background, which is what is needed I think

And he was part of the era when India did quite well overseas.

i would still think it would be a battle between kumble and moody, was moody interviewed ?

So it's official now, Anil Kumble to coach the team for next 1 year. This is interesting because this year is our biggest home season and BCCI wants to look at how Kumble manages to transit himself from being a great Indian player to a coach. This can also be a big gamble because if Kumble doesn't give results, questions will be straight away against BCCI as to why they didn't go for someone experienced especially when they had an option of someone like Tom Moody.

Surprisingly, they still have not come up wth support staff.

Kumble played with grace, glad to see him as head coach, for the first time I am looking forward to India having a good home season. Best of luck to him!

Good decision by the BCCI and the advisory committee. Kumble is a guy who will most likely stay in the background and do his stuff. Also he is a very knowledgeable guy and someone of very high stature. To me, Kumble even supercedes Dravid in terms of likeability and humility.

It will be interesting to see the support staff. I dont think continuing with Bangar should be done. I would actually make Pravin Amre as the batting coach (Amre was one of the guys interviewed for head coach). Amre has actually helped people improve their techniques (Uthappa famously said about it). For bowling, the best choice would be Zaheer Khan but maybe Kumble can double up there as bowling coach too. For fielding, I dont think we need a change as our fielding has been pretty good in recent times. So Abhay Sharma can continue.

zak as bowling coach would just be perfect, kumble can help a bit with spinners!

Batting coach im not too fussed about, bangar wouldnt mess about much and has been decent in ipl!

I don't think Bangar should be removed. He has done a fair job. Zak can be added as specifically bowling coach. I am sure certain players like bumrah and especially sran can improve.

Ravi Shastri seems really pi$$ed with Ganguly for not showing up during his interview

All the more vindictive of the committee and BCCI's decision not to make Shastri as the coach. The guy is shooting off his mouth here in the media. Ganguly has clearly explained that he informed the committee and BCCI well in advance of his unavailability during specific time slots due to prior commitments. Its unfortunate that Shastri's interview had to happen during that time slot. It could have been anyone, but it was Shastri. And somehow, Shastri has been sucked into the conspiracy theories that Ganguly missed his interview for Kumble to become coach.

I am even more happier now at Kumble's appointment. Shastri is a misfit. He has aggression which works for a director's role, but as coach who is in the spotlight, he will make things worse for the team. And I dont believe two aggressors (Kohli and Shastri) will combine smoothly together. Someday or the other, Kohli will have issues as Shastri's way of reacting is in your face and someday things can blow up. Not the atmosphere the team needs to be in.

TBH, I think Shastri is right because if you are given a responsibility to do a job, you should be there performing it. Yes, Gangully did inform the committee and the board about his unavailability during that time slot but then again, they could have easily rescheduled that interview to perhaps next day or some other time slot when all committee members can be present to take the interview. They did take a pretty long time to decide on who will be the next coach so a couple more days wouldn't have made any difference. The interesting part is committee did want Shastri involved in the setup and that is the reason they recommended him as the batting coach of Indian team however, the BCCI secretary stopped them from doing so because committee's job was to only find the head coach and nothing else. It is clear that Shastri is disappointed but he could have definitely chosen some better wording, right now it feels like he is just accusing Gangully.

^^ Fair pont. But @SaiSrini raises a totally valid point here. Shastri doesn't have something going his way and what is the first thing he does - blabs about in front of the media without thinking. Reminds me eerily of Greg Chappel, who was always running to the media whenever he met with resistance from the players or management. Never saw that with Kirsten or John Wright (more Kumble-esque)

And I don't see the point of having a dominating personality like Shastri as the batting coach, which is an even more behind-the-scenes job.

while i agree shahstri has been, a loud mouth always i wouldnt compare him with chappel, that guy destroyed careers with intent, i cant somehow see shastri doing that!

Also fwiw he has done a decent job after taking the team from that england disaster! For most of the part the team did decently away from the fletchering!

That said shastri has run his course of usefulness sometime back, Kumble is the way to go form this point onward!
