Who Should be the next Indian coach

To me, Kumble even supercedes Dravid in terms of likeability and humility.

I think the key difference between the two is confidence and intent, Kumble is pretty straight forward, but without being a loud mouth like shastri! While dravid is more of a inside boiler when it comes to communicating! Even when he was captain he was more of a lead by example type which may work as captain but not as coach!,Dravid would be wonderful for youngsters coming up but not with the established ones as much as someone more shrewd!

the only thing i would be vary of is pushing rohit for captain and i do feel kumble would be above such things!

GREAT TIME FOR INDIAN CRICKET'

The legendary spinner said he cannot wait to join forces with his former teammates again. He added he would work with them closely to take Indian cricket forward.

"This is a great time for Indian cricket. I have played for long with Sourav, Sachin, VVS and Rahul (Dravid) is also guiding the junior team.

"The five of us share wonderful relation on the field and off it as well. It will be great for the five us to get together and take Indian cricket forward," he said.

The fact of him including dravid in there and the rapport they have will be great in sourcing young talents!

Ravi Shastri has made it very clear to everyone, exactly why he shouldn't be anywhere near Indian cricket. Very good on Sourav Ganguly to give it back! I'm one hundred percent sure that if the others were involved, they'd have given a politically correct statement. I just love that last line! Appear in person rather than holiday in Bangkok! :lol

Honestly, the panel to select the coach in itself was a farce. Really, who did you expect those guys to select? Kumble himself has said that these guys have been on the road for two decades! I don't buy the BS that the friendship doesn't come in between. It absolutely does. Why is Shastri being so mad about it? Well, for starters it's close to a 12 crore annual pay (inside sources I know in the CAB say so), plus performance clauses have been made for Anil Kumble. No broadcaster would pay Shastri that much and it's quite clear that he was the first choice before Kumble came into the fray.

The only downside to Shastri not becoming coach is having to tolerate him in the com box although I'd love to put him and Dada in the com box at the next series.

LOLLL @ Ganguly's dig at Shastri's interview during vacation. Makes sense too

That bit is also a bit weird because Sachin Tendulkar was in London and was present via Skype. So it's a bit silly to take a jibe at Shastri who at least made an appearance and did what he was asked to do.

This whole thing however is just unnecessary. The more Ravi keeps going on about this, the harder it will be for him to even get his commentary job back.

nah the guy is too big of a loud mouth, that bcci would just want him to quiet down rather than poke him further! Plus he is quite connected with those guys!

To be fair it should have been handled a lot better on both sides, ganguly should have made a personal call to him or something and stated his absence, its common courtesy as well as Mr Flashes hard must have either attended the meeting directly or atlaest ade a worth while plan instead of stating look at the two years!

Whatever jibe we may take at him, he was still way way better than fletcher for the indian team! And deserved to be shown the door in a respectable way!

Also the selection panel is a bit of a joke, one guy runs on his errands for the day, other shows up via skype!

Its funny imagine laxman sitting in empty conference room, chatting to sachin and shastri on a laptop! heck he would have wished he had stayed at home!

It would have been better to appoint, more jobless guys for selecting who can give importance to it than look into next brand they should be promoting!

All said best to put it all behind and move on, kumble is a good choice despite CIF without which moody would have taken the job easily, hope he delivers!

I disagree with that (where you say that panel would have chosen only Kumble). These cricketers (Sachin, Saurav and Laxman) are guys of very high integrity and principles and I am pretty sure they wont bring personal bias when making their suggestions to the board. These guys want good things to happen to Indian cricket and have often expressed that in many ways.

Shastri is an overpowering personality and if an issue breaks out between him and Kohli, then it will be mayhem in the media. I think the committee did a great job in not selecting him for the job.

While I respect your opinion, I still felt from the outset that these guys would pick Kumble regardless. I'm not doubting their integrity, but the bias kicks in without them even realising. It's just human behaviour. I think 'long Tom' was the chap with the maximum pedigree in that list and for me he deserved the job. Kumble would have been my second choice for the simple reason, he has no coaching background, but I don't resent his appointment. His 'nature' as a cricketer supersedes his lack of coaching experience.

Now, I'd dearly like to see Zak as the bowling coach and I think we've got ourselves a fantastic support group for the team. I'm absolutely loving the Shastri bashing from all corners. Gauti has also chimed his tune. :D

@SaiSrini - Did you not enjoy the re-emergence of Dada's combative side? :lol

Yeah, I actually liked it. Loved the way Dada gave it back in all glory to Shastri. Shastri brought it up on himself with such silly finger pointing exercise against Dada, and that too in the media.

But again, I feel cricketers like Shastri and Dada are best served in board administrative roles and they should not be doing work with the teams itself. I feel Dada will possibly make a strong board administrator, which is where he has put his leg in right now. Shastri could do similar things too. But for being a coach of the national side of any Indian side, you need to be a background worker and keep your calm under any situation. Thats why my opinions about Dada being India coach has changed (I once did have the thought of him being India coach, but it has changed)

He will be if its someone calm like say, rahanae or pujara leading the side not taht i want them to, but iwth kohli it will be like setting fire to cracker factory :D

The problem with Dada is that he is a media magnet. Anything he does will be heavily scrutinized. And the man is temperamental. He can say things off his mouth that can easily be repented for. Like the way he responded back to Shastri recently. Such talkers should not be coaches because the coach job should be highly underplayed and preferably should be taken up by someone who has a lot of control over their emotions. I still dont see Dada as someone who has enough control over emotions to be coach of a side like India where its like walking on a bed of thorns.
