Rahul Dravid... the man who always ends up 2nd

Yeah, sure. Ponting > Donald Bradman, who was also a no 3. What a ridiculous point!

Here he comes again! look how well he has managed to ignore the OP's point that RD is the best ever no 3 in the world :sarcasm

Hey You guys want to talk about Best No 3 batsman..start new thread :p

How well have you managed to ignore that there was no "ever" in the OP's post. Saying he is the best no 3 in the world (which is debatable), and that he's the best ever no 3 in the world is totally different, though it's just a matter of one word.

Seriously, am I the only one who can't make sense of this thread?

Rahul Dravid was Scotland's greatest batsman. I used to go watch him carting the bowlers around. Definitely one of my favourite players.

Do you people know that feeling when walking in muddy areas? You get your leg out of one sticky pothole and drive your leg into an even muddier pothole with your next step? Thats how navigating threads in cricket discussion feels. Morons. The lot of you.

@ the argument in the previous page.

Haha Dravid has scored his third test century in nearly three years, Ponting has Dravid covered all day every day in any form of the game.

Yeah and ponting does not have the luxury of batting on roads like these either!:D

Well said, mate. That guy is some kind of a troll!

Seriously, am I the only one who can't make sense of this thread?

I could make a sense. Till that troll turned up with his ridiculous views. I've learnt quite a lesson from this. Never ever react to any dumb troll of any kind, or he just won't get off your back and keep on irritating you/make you look bad in front of everybody with his comments and views which make zero sense. I'm now really regretting my decision of ever reacting to that idiot's statements; as by doing such I gave him just the opportunity he wanted of starting a flame war and putting me into this mess. Now all the fingers will be pointed at me for ruining this thread! I do apologize to everybody and promise that I will never repeat this mistake in the future.

Anyway, on the main topic, yeah, I agree with the article. Dravid is indeed the most consistent batsman we have ever produced. But sadly, whenever he achieves something big, it's always another person who gets the whole attention. Remember the first Test between India and Sri Lanka some days back? There Dravid put up the most valuable knock of the match. Yet, he was in the limelight for just a single day. In all the other four days, the centre stage was occupied partly by Mahela Jayawardane and partly by Sachin Tendulkar. The picture is always like this. Unlucky guy! Sometimes I do feel sorry for him!

Bradman is THE BEST EVER at any No...i think we are talking about current players:D

There was no indication in his post that he was talking about current players. He just kept on trolling with his rubbish views, even after I pointed out why his post made no sense at all. Anyway, I'm moving on. It's not the proper thread to discuss all this, and neither will I do it here. If you have anything to say, keep it to VMs.

Dravid has always had to be the man behind other people. Even when he started off, he would often get overshadowed by either Sachin or Saurav. In the respective 180+ knocks of both Sachin and Saurav which is the highest in their career in ODI's, there has been a Dravid hundred in the same match that was completely overshadowed. He has been unlucky.

Dravid might not be the best No. 3 batsman but he is one of the best batsman that the game has seen. The patience, determination to play a long innings and not flinch at anything from the opposition makes him a legend. Everytime we are in a pit, Dravid brings us out of it.

AND I WOULD TAKE DRAVID OVER PONTING AT NO. 3 ANYDAY! For me, Ponting is more flashier while Dravid is rock solid, technically very strong and an amazing cool head in times of crisis and anytime.

Not Dravid's fault that he gets to play on placid pitches probably more. Dravid is actually hailed for his game on challenging pitches. The way they took him to SA for the Champions trophy to counter challenging conditions and dropped him when the team was back in Indian conditions is a testimony of how much the country rates Dravid's technique and his skills.
