Rameez Raja.. A real embarrassment for all in the commentary box!

Sunil Gavaskar comes across as a pig headed knob to me.

I like Tony Greig, I don't think anyone can beat Richie though. I'm also a big fan of Mark Nicholas.

Look guys it depends on how we rate a commentator...I like a commentator that provides me with funny moments and the occasional facts. Also i like commentators that have a loud voice and can get you excited...

If we rate a commentator based on his knowledge of cricket than IMO Danny morrison is the worst BUT he is definetly the guy that makes me laugh loudest and the occasional "You Betcha" is fun as well

@Precambrian: Ramiz isnt a great commentator...but he is definetly not the worst..i read somewhere here he doesnt think before he speaks and that is perfectly true.. and please dont copy IPL page 2 commentary gems of only Ramiz's there other funny things too there....

I like Mark Nicholas' commentary, too. He's solid, doesn't babble uselessly and doesn't behave like an arrogant prick. But most non-Asian commentators are solid anyways.

Asian-wise, I don't mind listening to Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram, Sanjay Manjrekar, Harsha Bhogle, Sunny Gavaskar, etc. Ramiz could get into the end of that list too, as he is miles better than the likes of L Siva, Aamer Sohail, Arun Lal and all the Bangladeshi ones.

Rameez is one of the best commentators going around. His first language is not English so he is bound to make a few errors here and there. He has got very good insight of the game though. I find him witty, knowledgeable and humorous. I think that is pretty much what a good commentator needs.

Yeah, humorous for 5 yr olds. Check out the first page.

Well here's how I see it: Every country has biased commentators, but at least the Australian commentators have a good reason to sound biased. Their team has won the last 3 world cups and has been the top rated Test nation for virtually all of the last 15 years. Their side has contained guys talked about as ALL time greats: Ponting, Hayden, Gilchrist, McGrath and Warne. Bevan and Symonds in ODI cricket. So at least they are a little more justified in their constant praising of all things Australian. But if you are looking for commentators who aren't biased, you'll be looking a LONG time.

Yes, while Ian Chappell probably praises the opposition players the most (along with Tony Greig) he often gets hung up on issues that really annoy him and he comes across as pretty arrogant and unshakable in opinion. It's part of a trend I hate in the commentary box among the older commentators in particular who tend to criticise captaincy a lot. Why put out a fielder here? Why not have a leg gully? Why isn't Simon Katich bowling? Bill Lawry is forever suggesting field placings (the leg gully is his favourite) and Ian Chappell is pretty quick on the criticism button for captains too. It is only the younger breed who even bother to try and explain WHY a captain is doing what he's doing.

But while occasionally Chaps annoys me with his hard headedness, at least he discusses interesting issues and actually knows something about some of the opposition players. As opposed to Bill Lawry, who for all the words he dribbles out during a game, none of them are enlightening or particularly interesting.

70s was Chappelli's era - well captaincy era anyway, he played a bit in the 60s. I think he's fallen in love with his reputation as a great captain a bit though. He often talks about captaincy as an art and while it's often interesting to hear his take, you get the impression he thinks he knows a lot about captaincy and that he fancies himself as a pretty awesome captain. But I guess it's hard to argue with him, he does have a good record. And his abrasive/arrogant nature that many find annoying is just the way he is. I think if he'd never captained/played Test cricket, he'd be the same opinionated guy, so it's not as though success has gone to his head, it's just the way he is.
For unbiased, heck, self deprecation, look no further than the English!

Having won 3 WCs, having dominated the world for close to a decade and half in cricket, is no excuse for a commentator theoretically to be biased. He is supposed to be exactly that, a commentator, not a marketing agent for his team.

However, such blind commentary, according to Ch 9, tunes in viewers, so they ask healy & Co. to be absurdly biased. I am not condemning it. Because commentary is a long dead art. But I just stick to my opinion that Ch 9 commentators are biased and they suck in general.

Emmm....not denying, but how did you get to hear them? I mean, Channel 9 is not aired in India, is it?

Oh they are. Except for series involving India, all series in Australia are telecast in India by ESPN Star using direct feed from Ch 9.

This is what he said today"Manish Pandey is the only centurion in IPL season 2"...while De Villiers has also got a TOn...

You don't get it? That is Rameez being funneh. Lolz. Haha. What a guy.

sometimes it can be......but he is a great commentator....IPL is a busy schedule for all..

Okay fine dont listen to him..mute the channel...the problem is that you just dont wanna change the way you think...The point of discussion is to meet people with different ideas than yours and PROBABLY learn something from them
But in your case and no matter what anyone else says here you will keep hating him wont you??

I don't think you are in a position to advise me what to do. Yes, as long as I am not abusing him, I am entitled to my opinion on him. I think he is the equivalent of a genital wart among commentators.

There are a lot of Haters on this forum.

I'd really like to see some people who criticize players/commentators/umpires to show what they can do.
