Random Thoughts

Here is a video I took of a guy firing a Mosin Nagant at the range. He let me fire a few rounds and after reading up on it's history I had to get it.

and no it's not expensive. 17 million of these rifles were made during WWII and most survived. I got mine for $150 after shipping

That's a lovely piece of history to own Mark. Looks very nice even as an unused collectors piece.

Thanks man. I'm super excited.

the guns were turned in by the soldiers after the war and the Russian army dismantled, cleaned and stored them in arsenals. They started selling them off to collectors in early 2000s. Mine is literally coming packed in the cosmoline oil it was caked in for preservation after some Soviet soldier turned in it post war.

Some people get rifles with names engraved on them, I've even seen one where the Soviet soldier had scratched X's for confirmed kills.

Should look nice in my future study, but for now I'm going to shoot it a bit lol.

Really is pretty cool... I kinda want one on my living room wall now even though I'd never use it. Same reason for having a cool Samurai sword or something I guess... not like I'm gonna run out and stab people who dishonour me... probably.

My Dad has an old shotgun as a deco piece. It's from the cowboy days and was someones wagon gun. The literal "shotgun" position on the wagon lol.

Anyways, it's hanging on the wall and the firing pin has been removed. So even if someone was to put ammo in it, there is no way it will fire.

Power is not the point. I am collecting this as a historical artifact. The rifle was issued and used in WWII.

If I wanted power, I could buy a Barrett 50 BMG, I can even legally buy armor piercing incendiary rounds for it.

Not after power, though, just want to own a piece of WWII history.

Hope to get a M1 Garand one day too, but a bit out of my price range right now.

I will agree that Soviet small arms are awesome. This will be my first 7.62 caliber weapon, possibly add the SKS and an AK pattern rifle down the line
Well that Hand Cannon was part of a war as well when the Serbs and Croats were dooking it out.

Barret 50BMG? Don't you mean McMillan TAC-50 as the Barrets come out as Barrett M82, M90 and M95, M99 and XM500.

Although Barret and McMillan 50BMG is a large caliber it comes nowhere near the RT-20 with power as it uses 20x110mm Hispano which was developed from Hispano Suiza HS404 anti-aircraft round of WW2 vintage. The picture I posted above the top round is the BMG and the one below it is the Hispano. So you can see the size difference. Also 50BMG is actually 12.7x99mm compared to the 20x110 Hispano. RT20 is anti-material rifle. The only rifle to come close to it in terms of power is our (South Africa) NTW-20. But our NWT-20 is a 20 x 83.5 mm MG151 round.

This is what the NWT-20 does NTW 20 Rifle - YouTube now imagine what RT-20 can do!!

I don't care about military grade arms. I can only collect small arms (rifles, shottys, handguns)

I leave all that jazz to the COD tacticool noob wannabes. I can actually buy and fire the guns I go after, not just cream myself looking at pictures online

No practical application to owning a weapon that powerful. At least I can hunt with my Mosin Nagant

haha COD is unrealistic everytime I play as a American and fire at the British soldiers they don't die....

I like to talk about firearms. Military or Civilian. I was actually 7 years in the Police service of which my last 5 years was as a detective. My fav part of the training was the SWAT training as you fired all kinds of weapons and the jungle lane with the 12 gauge. Some of the woman was crying of the way the 12 gauge was hurting them so I told them to slip some of their rounds to me lol. They let us fire 50 rounds with it at a time and for a woman that can be a painfull experience especially those who never touched one.

You must google for Funny Gun accidents. I think its at military.com or something can't remember the exact addy but you should find it with google. You'll piss yourself over some peoples stupidity :D

It always amazed me that we never get more ex-detectives and SWAT members on these forums..... I imagine literacy wasn't on the training program?
