The temperature has suddenly decreased here, a few days back it was above 50° C and now it's like 30 most of the time (day and night). It's quite humid here and I'm smelling rain as well. Can't wait to feel rain.

Haha it's nothing, I've been living here since I was born. It's a desert mate, where in summer the temperature rises to 70° C and in winter the temperature drops to -5° C at maximum, definitely not a place for a child to grow up.

My landlord has quite a brilliant anecdote.

He was in a pub in Sheffield with a mate once, and the chat turned to a woman he knew. My landlord said she had gone to see a man in New York, but he didn't think he was actually from New York, he was from Hunters Bar (which is an area of Sheffield). His mate said my landlord's problem was that he wasn't from New York, he was from Rotherham.

This conversation is repeated almost word for word in the Arctic Monkeys song Fake Tales of San Francisco (lyrics are here). My landlord says he didn't know it at the time but Alex Turner must have been sitting nearby and overheard the conversation, and put it into the song. At the time the Arctic Monkeys were nothing more than sixth form band, but they were just about to get their big break.

I think that's pretty cool. Also, if you read the rest of the lyrics you can tell that the whole song is made up of what Alex Turner saw and heard in that pub in Sheffield on that particular night.
