What would the motive be?

Nah, sounds like she was just an Uncle Tom type who couldn't handle emotions and made a mountain out off a molehill in her mind.

She must have had some other issues. This incident just pushed her over the edge. Last straw that broke the camel's back.

BBC News - '27 dead' in Connecticut primary school shooting

And yet still Americans still want their guns, when these happen quite often (3rd major gun attack this year) I remember during the election Mark was getting worked up because apparently Obama wanted to change gun laws. I don't know what the need is in a modern western society for someone to have an assault weapon, because sadly events like this will always happen whilst anyone can still own something whose only function is to kill.

It's not as simple as just banning guns. Hunting is a relatively big thing in america and i wouldn't want to ban that.

Besides if you took guns away from the good guys who have them (which far outnumber those who are going to go on a rampage) then just the criminals would have them, due to how to prevalent they are in the country as it stands that would cause a lot of problems for quite some time.

I definitely think stricter controls are needed but painting it as having guns or not having guns isn't going to make any progress.

Good point, but will changing the laws really change anything.?

I mean without going into any detail I could get hold of a gun tomorrow if I really wanted to, and I'm just your average citizen

So someone with the idea of murder on there brain will stop at nothing I reckon.

Came here to see cliche liberal faggggot European argument to ban guns and was not disappointed.

well europeans countries have lower gun deaths per capita. so maybe the cliche euro ------ arguments have some merit.

Obviously it's not as simple as looking at one specific statistic in isolation but it seems like your viewpoint is essentially that you like guns so you want to keep them and lalalala everyone else can get out.

My comment was directed to Tom, your comment made sense.

Obviously there needs to be some tighter regs on who can buy firearms, but any sort of ban only punishes those who legally enjoy shooting which is 99.99% of the people. I guarantee you the guns used in this attack were purchased legally.

This is not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue.

The coverage of these kind of incidents just exacerbates the situation:

excellent points from charlie brooker. The problem is the news is also an entertainment show now.

The sad fact is that anti-intellectualism is rife now. People don't care about in depth analysis and sensible discussion. they want emotive ramblings - this leads to kids getting microphones shoved in their face in front of television camera hours after seeing their classmates shot

I also dislike the "this isn't the time to discuss the issue" arguments for a tragedy like this. Maybe it would make it harder for some of the victims if the discussion was prominent but no less difficult to just see surface level and reactionary coverage of it - if anything people searching for solutions to the problem may off a modicum of comfort or hope of some sort

Moreover society has a short attention span. If it isn't discussed now or at the time of tragedies then it never will be as some other issue will pop up and be discussed instead.

I like the fact I am classed as a "liberal fagggot" by American standards. American's really live in a delusional bubble if they think either banning or limiting access to guns ranging from hand guns up to full blown assault weapons is a bad idea. Maybe Mark should go and tell the victims of gun crime in America that it is "liberal fagggots" idea to try and stop events like this happening. Mark isn't half quick to raise hell against Middle eastern and Asian cultures as "barbaric" and "backwards". In a modern, developed society which Mark so loves to shout from the tops of the trees is what America represents, what is the need for guns? You have an armed, well trained police force, and you don't need to hunt for food. Europe seems to function perfectly safely without wannabe vigilantes needing a gun to protect "their constitutional rights". The fundamental problem here is an outdated American ideology. As long as you have easy access to guns, America will keep on having unfortunate situations like this, but while you have paranoid hill billy attitudes in the majority of Americans like our beloved Mark, America will have to keep on comforting a lot of grief stricken families in years to come.
