Ranji trophy wrapup
RANJI TROPHY WRAP UP
Firstly, a big thank you to all the participants for playing one of the most exciting tournaments in DBC history.
The prize distribution ceremony is about to begin, and we have Arun Lal down at the ground.
Arun: Yes thank you, what a great tournament we have had everyone.
Let's start with the prizes
Orange Cap
Arun: The Orange cap goes to, the best ever English batsman, born in South Africa, Kevin Pietersen! Pietersen, of Punjab Warriors, scored 288 runs in 7 innings at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 89. Yuvraj Singh (226 runs) and Navjot Singh Sidhu (173 runs), both also of Punjab Warriors, follow him.
KP: Thank you, Lal. It was great fun playing in front of the Punjabi girls and I look forward to more entertaining evenings here.
Purple Cap
Arun: The next trophy, is the Purple Cap for the most wickets. This was an intriguing battle between two men. Steyn started off splendidly, and only a miracle could displace him from the top. But a miracle happened. Srinivas Venkatraghavan showed why he is among the best spinners in the history of cricket, by steamrolling ahead of Steyn. Sir Venkat, as he came to be known because of his mystery ball, is the Purple Cap winner with 53 wickets, ahead of Steyn (48 wickets) and Mitchell Johnson (35 wickets).
Srini: I'm glad that the management allowed me to come out of umpiring retirement and play this series. I'm glad that TSL picked me as their legend. And I'm glad that Ravi Shastri didn't destroy me during his commentary as he did for our other contemporary, Jimmy Amarnath.
Other awards
Arun: Let's look at the other winners in the tournament.
Highest Batting average goes to Balaji (48), although he only got out once. Pietersen (41.14) follows him.
Best Bowling average goes to Mahela Jayawardene, who took 3 wickets for 10 runs, at an average of 3.33. Venkatraghavan's 53 wickets came at an average of 4.60 runs!
Highest score is by Pietersen (241). Yuvraj Singh (133), Younis Khan (129), and Parthiv Patel (112) are the other centurions.
Most not outs goes to the legend himself, Munafbhai Patel! This indestructable force was not out 6 times in 10 innings! He only scored 17 runs, though.
Best Batting strike rate goes to Vijay Zol with 157.68. He only made 41 runs in 26 balls. Sanju Samson, with 121 runs at a strike rate of 134.44, follows him.
Most overs bowled and runs conceded were by the tireless workhorse, Munafbhai himself. Unparalleled dedication to his trade.
Most man of the match awards goes to Sir Venkat, who picked up three awards, while Steyn picked up 2.
Arun: So that's that folks. It's been a wonderful tournament, and we will see you next time.
Arun: Oh, I almost forgot the trophy!
The winner of the tournament, Punjab Warriors and KUSHARI!!!!!!!!
Kushari showed his class as he finished the tournament undefeated, scoring a mammoth 1500 runs in the process. The fact that the next highest is 945, by arjwiz who played a game less, shows how unparalled Kushari's performance was.
That's a wrap everyone. For more detailed player and team statistics, view the attached file.
It was a pleasure bringing you this coverage, and we hope to see you again soon.
It's goodbye from us.
