Rise of nations: Thrones and Patriots

When you play the campaign do u have to use Turn-based strategy.
Or can u play throughout the whole game in rts style.

I didnt explain it very well but if u understand, please help me out.

I know the campaign map is turn based but when you fight someone i think it's RTS style
