ROT FILES - leaving ball alone

does anybody know which of the *.rot capture files relates to the batsmen leaving the ball alone.

I want to be able to replace one of the existing rot files
(eg forward defensive 2 or whatever) with this leave alone capture.

The end result being that the cpu batsmen may occasionally leave some balls alone in one day matches, other than wides.

I think it is either 003 or 015, these are the only batsmen captures that do not have a shot assigned to them, eg capture 31 pull shot, i play with a joypad, on pressing button "c", the batsmen leaves the ball, i am going to attempt to swap and re-name the leave captures to see whether they are really the correct ones.

thanks Paul
pls post here how you get on. I will probably have a look at these files as well.

hey, don't modify 003 or 015. it won't work. they are for batsman stroke check, not for playing any shots.

I changed the normal leg glance to front foot leg glance and it looks much better..especially against spinners..

I tried changing some rot files for bowlers and the bowler ran in from mid wicket

Hi
The rot files for leaving the ball alone are the ones 40 - 44. The capture of the batsman leaving the ball alone is divided into different captures, like 40 is the batsman going back, 41 is the batsman going across etc.Hope you will find this useful.

Ajay, many thanks for that information, have you tried swapping any captures for the shots played by the batsmen?, the excellent editor created by Sriram makes altering the atr. files very simple, now when i am altering the atr. values for captures i have swapped i can get very close to satisfaction with the new shots, one more thing, do you (or anyone else) play the game with a joypad or do you use the keyboard?

has anyone tried to merge 2 rot files? i.e. append one after another? If it works and if there are suitable captures then we can have lots of different strokes..imagine going on the backfoot and driving..

same can be done for keeper/fielders

Shailesh, the alterations that i have meade to my atr. and rot. files enable me to have back foot drives through all areas of the wicket, straight, off side and on side, that is why i posed the question regarding whether people play with keyboard or joypad, i have tried various models of joy pad yet none seemed able to detect the cut shot, rot/atr. 36, and back foot on drive atr./rot. 28, the batsmen would not execute these shots even with alteration of the pitch/ stump/ batsmen position in the atr. files, to solve this problem i swapped various captures to the ones that my chosen joy pad could execute, an example being atr/rot 53, normal on drive is now a back foot drive all around the wicket dependant on timing etc., a good length delivery on middle and off, middle and leg can now be played off the back foot all around the wicket, to attempt this you should delete the existing rot.53, make a copy of rot 36, rename this copy a-Cc053, alter the atr file for 53 to reflect the change eg. well timed to go straight, late square, early over point etc. now you can have drives of the back foot. my shot improvement patch had and explained all these changes, however i was not able to send it to anybody due to upload problems, i am working on a new one which i will hopefully be able to send for people to view. the only problem i found with this change was that the batsmen tended to get trapped on the back foot in front of the stumps many times, a back foot capture played to a good length delivery is bound to lead to lbw appeals, however i foound that this added to the realism of the test match, it may be worth exploring whether we can alter the umpire descision making on lbw appeals as i was given out playing this backfoot capture when the ball had pitched outside leg stump. you may have already tried to swap rot captures, if not this is a good place to begin, let me know what you think of the change.

Following on from my previous post i have 5 screenshots of the back foot off drive being played through mid-off off a good length delivery pitched on middle stump, if anybody wants these screenshots which illustrate well the back foot off drive capture being executed i can send them to you.

Paul,
I play with a joypad (2 in fact - a Logic 3 JT277 PC Trident pad for batting, and a Logitech Wingman for bowling, so I can both bowl and bat at the same time if I want to).
I can play the cut and the backfoot on-drive with the Logic 3, but it depends on timing and the length of the ball. i.e. to a good length ball on or outside off stump, I press the normal shot button and the direction pad at 11 o'clock (if you see what I mean!) to play the backfoot cut. Likewise. the backfoot on drive is played to a shortish ball on middle or leg stump, pressing the direction pad at 5 0'clock.
I bought my Logic 3 pad from PC World (if you live in England) for about ?15 - ?20.

Jonah, the pad i am now using was a pc world purchase, it was about ?10, which probably explains why it is not up to much!, in a way though it is quite a good thing as it has meant that i have experimented with swapping the captures etc. in order to play the cut shot and back foot on-drive on drive, now that i can execute the capture i have altered the atr. files to play it of all deliveries and pitch positions, i may upgrade the pad to one of the pads you have suggested, then i will be able to get the on-drive shot back!
regards, paul
