Sachin Tendulkar - Back To His Best?

He will probably retire after the 2011 World Cup. But you never know Sachin! He might upset all odds and keep on playing till he is 40 or something. Anything is possible for a guy who can score four back-to-back hundreds at the age of 36.
^This.

We are all assuming that he'll retire after the 2011 World Cup. But, I have a feeling (and a very strong one TBH) that he'll probably play till 2015. Or he could retire from ODI cricket after the 2011 WC and carry on playing the longer version of the game till his body permits him to do so.

Sachin to play till he can average above 38 in test cricket. Because Whoever is gonna replace him isn't going to do any better than that. Yuvi, Sharma, Raina...Badrinath's career will end before Sachin's and we have no idea how Pujara, Rahane, Pandey or Tiwary will pan out.

Rohit Sharma to me has looked like someone ideally suited for Test cricket. He needs time to settle down and has the temperament and patience to succeed in Test cricket. But he's definitely not the choice for ODI cricket though, specially with so many other talented players around.

Rohit is Potential india needs at test cricket. He's spattered out to Injuries too often. People just judge him by that. He has the Potential to settle in at the International Level. Well, probably people will tend to believe when he gets back to the World stage again.

The next guy to say, will he ever? :p

Next time Rohit will be selected he will fall from team bus steps and break his ankle ;)
He will probably never play for India because of these freak injuries he picks up every time. Not that anyone here will be complaining.

Next we would hear: " Rohit Sharma injured while playing games on wii" or "Rohit hurt his wee while playing on wii" :p

Sachin is at his best only. Some people think that the attacking Tendulkar of those days is the only way he can be at his best. But now his game has tightened up and he accumulates runs like a machine. He has scored 4 consecutive hundreds in 4 tests (2 vs SA) and has actually added more class to his batting (before it was more of style).

His stats say he's in great form, but his batting is nowhere near his best- his strokeplay and command was in full flow around the mid 90's to about 98. His century in SA in 92 was awesome, so was the Perth one in 92, as was the one in 96 at Cape Town. Watching highlights of those innings tells you very little, seeing him actually play those bowlers with ease and really stamping his authority with magnificent forceful defence was a joy. Full strength SA attack too back in 92 and 96. He has never batted that well since, but came close maybe in England in 96 and 2001, and in his 155 in 2001 vs SA. Most of the last decade he has changed his style- obviously since its common knowledge- he is maybe more consistent now but he was quite Sehwag like in his best form.

No doubt he is in great form now, and India sure need him to be more than ever.

People are jokingly predicting that Sachin will bat along with son Arjun oneday for India. But if a player has the stamina in his body and knows that he can play for more, whats wrong in that? If you think his performance is not enough for him to stay in the team, DROP HIM! I am sure Sachin knows when to quit. You should never tell a person when to quit. Especially when you have the option to drop him (India made it tough for themselves by selecting players on reputation).

Yea Sachin in the 90s was better than right now ever so slightly.

Thats because he was more entertaining to watch. I would dare say that he is better now for the team than before.

Now it is as if he is ultra conservative. His impact for the team is less.

What I mean is by the time he scores a century, other batsmen in the team would take them to a strong position.

are you sure that his impact on team is less.

watch an Indian dressing room without him, you'll come to know the difference.

sachingr8 added 0 Minutes and 32 Seconds later...

well India would play SL in next test match I think so.

His impact between the era's is very hard to figure, useless to argue about it. But his style of play is obviously different.

Geoffrey Boycott was once asked on Cricinfo about which players have made the biggest impact on the game. He picked 3 players, and I believe most will agree with his choice -

1. W.G. Grace

2. Sir Donald Bradman

3. Sir Garfield Sobers

He picked those players era wise.
