We turned up in good time this morning and the pitch was amazingly dusty. It was the sort of thing that we would play on in India and you could tell it was going to be a dream for the spinners. I honestly was looking forward to batting after two good scores and we still were yet to hear if the Australians were playing a spinner. Our team had remained unchanged with Sharma getting another go and the batting order remaining the same with Sourav and I opening the batting. I felt so pumped and was just hoping we could win the toss and bat first so I could get out there and try to get some runs on this dusty, turning track.
Well the Australian side is an incredibly surprising one with Dave Hussey opening the batting and Michael Hussey replacing Clarke in the middle order. The bowling attack for the Australians has surprised me more than anything with Lee being dropped and Tait coming in as his replacement. The Aussies will want to build on their victory against Sri Lanka and although they have only beaten us once during our tour we still have to step up as they are the best rated ODI side in the world.

Dhoni went out for the toss, lost it and we were put into field. Although this is not what we were planning to do its simply doesn’t matter to me as I know that we may be able to get some early wickets with the new ball and then take advantage in the middle over with our quality spin attack. The pitch will be turning from the word go and although the Aussies are strong batting line up we really will want to take advantage of them early on especially debutant David Hussey.
The debutant is opening the batting
The first 30 overs have been very interesting with Hussey and Hayden starting well taking 47 from the first 10 overs. Then the next 20 overs went for 68 runs with Kumble going for 29 from 10 and Pathan going for 39. Standing at slip it was very good to watch the batting and especially Hayden who is on 60*(90) Debutant David Hussey batted well for 37 before nicking one to Laxman as short leg off the bowling off Kumble. He hit the ball well and I was very impressed with the way he batted and hit the ball with such confidence. Ponting came in and started well taking 13*(27). Now with the score on 115-1 from 30 I think it could go either way. There is a lot of pressure on Bhaji and if he plays well then we can keep them to under 225 and put our selves in a position to easily win this match.
Hayden builds base for Australia with solid 60*
The last 20 overs went for 137 runs at nearly 7 an over and it was mainly because Sharma got hit to all parts of the ground by Symonds and Ponting. Bhaji bowled well taking 2 wickets but went for 52 runs from his last 10 overs. The key to the batting performance for the Australians was the best I have seen during this whole tour with Hayden taking 78(116), Ponting smashing 88*(92) and Symonds chipping in with a quickfire 34*(25) at the end. With 253 to win I am confident we will do it but we just need a solid start like the Australians had.
good perfomance from the Aussies sets us a challenging total
During the break Sourav and I stayed in the dressing room and worked out our tactics for the next session. We were planning to take it slow and try to build up throughout the overs without losing a wicket to give us a solid base for the last 20 overs. If we could get to 115 with 20 overs to go without losing a wicket it would mean we had a serious chance. Singles and taking advantage of the bad ball was going to be the key and I was really looking forward to the challenge of a run chase. As we headed out I felt the adrenaline and just cant wait to face my first ball.
Pumped for the big chase against the best in the world
Well we started well and just kept building the innings. I felt in top form and was comfortable against the quicks and especially against Bracken who although he bowled lines was easy to work around the park. The Aussies were prity aggressive and especially Symonds was really digging into me and telling me I wasn’t good enough to be here. When the 30th over was finished and we went for drinks we both felt right on top despite the sledging. I was on 61*(89) and Sourav was on 63*(95). We were on 129-0 and need 124 from 120 balls in the last 20 overs with 10 wickets in hand.
124 from 120 balls I hope I can see it home
Game On, we need 73 from 60 and I am still there. Ganguly went to a Hoggy wrong-un for a fantastic 79(106) and Dravid has built a base with 17*(31) and now we need 7.3 an over to win. I am really feeling pumped for this last 10 overs and am just going to build it slowly till the last 5. I am on 78*(108) and cannot wait to get back into the action for the last 10 overs of this match. I am going to have to ball by ball them as well.
With 10 to go we have to finish it off

M. Hussey – C. Ganguly B. Singh – 7(7)

When we got back I went straight to my room, I was so tired after such a long innings but was still pumped after the awesome victory. Most of the boys were going out to celebrate but I had decided to go to sleep. As I opened the door there a letter there on the floor with a logo on it that I had seen before and I quickly opened the letter. My draw dropped as I read the writing. Was this the answer to my thoughts on retirement
Where did the letter came from? I guess some County most probably Yorkshire.
Also good win for India. Was tight in end but over from Hogg proved expensive for Aussies.
