Which bat/s do you prefer to use?

Throughout my junior playing days I always used a Gray Nicolls (V600 I think).

I've just picked up a pair of MRF Tycoons from India for ?25 and am also on the look out for a new bat to net with here.

I've got my eye on an SS bat at the moment.

Now I really don't want to be spending too much. Partly because I'm a bowler and partly just because I know I can pick up something usable for ?40.

What bats do you like to use? and what would you suggest to someone looking to spend around ?60? (eBay)

Hmmm I wouldnt be able to say on this budget, but I tend to spend around ?150 on a bat.

I like to use slazenger V800 Pro. Suits me perfectly.

However I was sponsored by County for a season and their bats are also very nice.

I'm already tempted to look up to ?100, but it's a lot of money for something I won't get enormous use out of. (I average about 7 :D )

Hmmm, just having a look through the SS range on VKS and they seem to have everything... (all bats are around ?40-50 less than RRP)

Ton Le Matrix - ?150 - finest grade, 2lb11.
Ton 5 Star - ?110 - top grade, 3lb.
Ton Heritage - ?90 - "good quality unbleached willow"
Ton Cambridge - ?60 - "unbleached willow"

What is the deal with unbleached willow? Is that just all that's left to say if it's not top grade, or is it different to the first two in some way?

I have an SS, given to me by my Indian Coach and it's pretty nice, balanced pick-up, the wood is allright, not the top, but pretty sweet, pings off the face.

But i still prefer my Hero!

have a look here mate

I bought the Fearnley Magnum Super Test for ?100, Grade 1 unbleached, finest english willow.

I bought the SS bat from VKS in Ealing for ?100. I'm tempted to get another one off that site though... I just can't resist good value!

I don't really like the v1200 and the v900 just doesn't feel like its made for me....
the choice was horrible, Hero? Beast? Hero? Beast? Big Kahuna? Beast? Hero? Beast!!!!!
I am proud of my choice tho!

maxy, put a white grip on your beast. i saw a guy with one today looks so good!

Could i help you out? Heres a quick summary of bats that i've heard that are great.

i have a gray nicolls rapier:

see here:http://www.cricketbats.com/newbatdetail.asp?id=72

Very nice bat, the ball zoots to the fence and not much power is required. Give it a mighty swing its an almost gaurantee that ball would clear the rope!

I used to use an Slazenger V800....Didn't really like it though. It was kashmiri willow and you had to swing it VERY hard for it to even reach the fence. I like SS bats also. The next bat i plan to get is probably going to be a kookubara beast or diablo or kauhana...if it is in my range.

this is cool too-wish i had it :(

I also have an SG: Very good and very cheap. Trescothic, the thread starter, can look into buying this. Very smooth control and really, really, really, good for hooking/pulling/slogging. Medium weight...this is an awesome bat...only thing its made out of Kashmiri willow, but its still really good. 850 rs is aboud 15 US dollars.

alothough i do not have this bat, its extreamly good. I've played with it and it is awesome! Price is dirt cheap for an english willow and as the name suggests, you'll be extra strong in the cover, extra-cover region.
Rs. 1200/-=about 24-25 USD

This is a bit more expensive, but none other than the Great VVS Laxman uses it. The SS 281 named after his epic innings vs aussies at kolkata (yeah, i can here your groans) Its meant for the wristy player and driver. Never played with it myself but it sounds good. MRF Genuis: Do i really have to explain this?? Go watch tendulkar play...you'll see the genuine power of this awesome bat.

how much is a Jnr version of the beast: a size HS in us dollars?

The Harrow size doesn't come with the graphite backing re-inforcement on the back of the bat, I think it only has a black enamel paint with stickering. Anyway that version in ZAR = 2 500,00. Not sure how much dollars it would cost.
