Have you really played with it? The start screen is the best part about Windows 8. It has a tablet feel to it, and a highlight to it is the live tiles which give you live updates from underneath that particular app. You can group tiles into different sections (check this screenshot below where I have grouped apps according to 'Utilities', 'Entertainment', 'Internet'). You can change the background texture and color of the start screen to you liking under "PC settings".

The start screen is what makes Windows 8 so elegant and attractive, apart from its performance improvement!

You're free to post your desktop as well as your tiles. I don't think it should warrant a name change, because at the moment, the target audience for 'tiles' is much smaller compared to 'desktop'.
Next, Mac users would want to rename it to something..

Are you seriously telling me, you don't pirate games before buying them on PS3 or Xbox. I do that with most my games. I wait after a week to download them and if I like it I go out and buy it so I can play online on PS3, and I know that I am not going to wait precious money.

That is the precise reason companies come up with Demos. Download the free demo, see if you like it, purchase the game, and play.

I somehow hate more than two columns of icons on my desktop. I've seen a lot of people, especially geeks have so many columns of icons on their desktops. And personal opinion - IT LOOKS UGLY!! I like a more neater, decluttered look to my desktop. It makes me feel more organized and better. It also gives a better view of the wallpaper that I have selected for my desktop. And I also don't like shortcut icons hanging underneath the icons on the desktop. I remove them using Shortcut Icon remover tool.

I loved Windows 7 and its widgets. It was so cool. Since I don't go back to my Windows 8 tile screen these days and stay only on Desktop mode, I think I would rather prefer the widgets to come back. Windows 8 is good with its all improvements in speed, but people are so used to the desktop environment that its good news that Windows 8.1 is allowing users to boot directly into Desktop mode.
