SLIDERS - Around the world in 80 pitch sliders.....again

After Australia levelled in Adelaide to square the series 1-1, i was starting to think, its really been a series of mid-level scores, 375 tops, a 331 and some in the 200's.

On a hard, dry MCG deck in nothing but five days of glorious sunshine, the AI decided to teach me a lesson, two full painful days in the field after losing the toss, they declare, bizarrely, after one ball on the third morning.

That was some hard graft in the field.

Going to take some effort now to try and copy it, or at least avoid the follow on and bat time, as the chances of winning look slimmer than Kate Moss now after this monster effort.
You: I want a harder game

AI: Here, have this!

Love it, that is a proper grinder. Have fun trying to do it in return lol

Hi Guys.
I downloaded the v3 sheet. what is Home and away ? like if i select England in sheet(that means match is played in England ..right ?)...then in sliders what is Home/away ?
I am new here so apologies if this sound like a noob question. i know what home and away test matches are but here i don't understand if we select any country above then what is significance of Home/away sliders.
can somebody please explain ?
Thanks in advance.

All good my friend.

The drop down box at the top is for the country you're playing in. So if you're playing at Lords, select England, SCG, select Australia and so on. And the bit next to the name of the country in the drop down box is the suggested pitch type. For England that's a grassy pitch, medium hardness. For Australia, it's a dry pitch, set to hard.

Home and Away numbers are slider settings you can use if you want to build some home advantage into your games. So, if you were controlling England, and playing in England, you're the home team, so you would use the "home" sliders.

If you were controlling England, but playing the AI as Australia, in Australia, you are the "away" team, so use the away sliders.

In short, the home sliders make batting and bowling slightly easier for the home team, and the opposite for the away sliders, the game will be slightly harder if you're playing away from home. This replicates how teams often play well at home, but can struggle when playing in different countries.

Any other questions, just give me a shout.

Got it mate.
Thanks for such a detailed explanation.

Tried it. England vs India at Edgbaston. Green medium cold conditions.
Bowling felt nice with these sliders. Run rate was 2-2.10 the whole innings.
But batting was way tooo easy. Easily scoring at 10-12 RPO. anybody else had same experience ? The sliders I used are England (None modifiers) Home conditions.
Batsmen coming with Red confidence were able to hit massive sixes. batting never felt challenging. bowling was good.

What do you guys suggest to make it challenging ?

As mentioned a few times in this thread, these sliders are only ever going to be a starting point for people as everyone has a different level of ability. It's good you enjoyed what you're doing and have a good base to edit to your own needs.

The ways to make batting harder are to increase the batting edge sliders for OK and Poor timing, this will increase the likelihood that timing input being less than green leads to an edge.

You could turn shot timing difficulty up, you could turn foot placement difficulty up, you can turn ball quality influence up, you can turn ideal power boost down, you can turn advanced shot timing difficulty up (if you're finding it too easy to hit sixes, especially). You can also turn the AI bowl quality up in the AI section. All those changes will make batting more difficult.

Just a note for anyone interested.

I just pushed out the first of a new series of vids (well, I say series, I plan to do them all as soon as I can but for now it's just this one!), with slider values from v3 of the spreadsheet.

About 5 minutes long, it has the slider value themselves (plus some brief commentary), then it has a bit about reskilling players, what pitch settings to use, then some in-game footage of everything put together with some comments. There's more details on stuff in the video description to.

I get that not everyone likes/uses/has Excel, and also some people like to see what the game can look like.

I'll stick this in the first post of this thread as well.

Thanks guys!

That video rules and I am so appreciative of you and everyone else who has molded this game into being something quite excellent. I just finished the first test in a tour of India using my custom team. I batted for 1.5 days in the first innings and even with the left handers taking a few easy legside singles I scored 400 on around 3.6 an over. Bowled out India for 240 in about 70 overs. Took 3 wickets with pace then went to a 3 man spin battery and got through it. Pant went for 100+ and Pujara got 50 but everyone else I got for under 20. In my next innings (started on Day 3) they bowled me out for 200, as the spinners made it SO hard. I loved it. Then this morning I just got them out in the first session of day 5 for 140 with spinners taking 7 of the wickets.

Three things I'll suggest beyond listening to @Rumple43 and @WealeyH:
1) Turn up bowl quality to a point where you almost want to reset it's so hard. For me that's at 92. It will really force you to play defensively and focus.
2) Try to only include 1-2 lefty batters in your top 7 (it's okay if your bowlers are lefties). The game is just more real when batting with right handers.
3) Make the bowling windows a bit easier until you can comfortably bowl out a team in the first innings for under 300. From there start tinkering with it to make it harder in terms of timing.

Now all I gotta do is re-download the teams and re-skill them so I can try a world test tournament or something that mirrors the WTC schedule. THe other thing is to re-download IPL teams but without overwriting re-skilled players...hopefully one day leagues can be bundled so it's one stop shopping on downloading.

Happy playing and just letting all the test junkies know that this game can be so bloody good when you tune it properly. Cheers :)

Since lot of people who come here tinker with sliders a lot, I'd like to ask a question which has bogged me since Cricket 19.

There's this slider called 'Miss-Input' which has a description of Increasing this slider will increase the required quality of shot to hit the ball. So by that definition you'd assume it should be at 100 for hardest.

Contrarily, in Default Hardest it is set at 20 and 30 in Hard, I personally liked it at 25 in Cricket 19 so I have followed the same with this as well. But if anyone have any clue on how it works, please enlighten me.

Back again!

Didn't take me as long to put this together as expected, and hopefully I can reach the half way point of this little series pretty soon.

England is always a tricky one, and needs some solid sliders. The bounce of 28 means it is way off compared to most other pitches, which are in the 30s and 40s, and with swing, seam, grassy pitches, too much help for spinners, good sliders are a must to enjoy tests in the UK.

Even if you're not interested in the video so much, there's some lovely wickets that are well worth checking out towards the end. Give you eyes a treat and watch those, you know you want to.

So yeah, give it a look, send me some love on YouTube as well, and as always I've linked this video to the opening post.

Next up, Australia!

You are a revelation mate! Please when you get some time, do work on the limited over formats.

I'll not lie, it is unlikely. Especially with my story just starting up, since that is test only. Happy to provide some pointers or feedback for any work done though!

Thank you for the kind word, I should add :-)
