I'd like to have just the one partition. Sometimes I have problems because my OS isn't installed on the main partition.

Re the heatsink, would I have to get some more thermal paste and put it on the cpu? At the moment, it's running at around 47-53 idle. Haven't tested it at load yet.

ahhhhh there was a random loud noise coming from the computer (kinda like a whirring) so i quickly shut down. On my laptop at the moment. I'm not sure what it could have been. I know that the heatsink isn't correct so it could've been that. it also could have been the new SATA drive I installed today. I'm rather scared about doing anything to damage my computer... :(

47-53 at idle is definitely on the higher side. Did you manage to get the heatsink fixed? if it's still high, it's better to apply the thermal paste.

I'm not sure how the partitions merge. Maybe using a software like Partition Magic?

I've just read something about the cord getting in the way of a fan and making the loud noises so I've moved the cords away and going to see what happens. The heatsink still isn't right though. Very annoying day.

hmmm I've got my computer running open, temperature's about 42 degrees. No noises so I think the random noise I got was my cord management being poor. But the heatsink still isn't down properly. It's really confusing why I can't do such a simple thing as install a heatsink. Oh well. I'll try tomorrow and hopefully I'm able to do that then.

When I use function key(Fn) keyboard doesn't work, only selected keys like r,t, function keys(F1,F2,etc...)works.
Any sollution?

I took the computer in and they put the the heatsink on correctly for me. Not sure if they applied any thermal paste but if they did that would have been nice. They did it at no charge as well. The guy remembered me from the day before I suppose which was nice. It's idling at 42 and that's while the case is on and its under my desk. Haven't tested it on load yet though.

Anyone have any answers to my previous question though?

argh it's making the whirring noise again. Only happens once the computer's been on for a little while though. I'm not sure what it is - either a fan or a hard drive I guess. It's not my main harddrive though, because the computer was running just fine. Because it was running perfectly fine despite this noise does this mean it's a fan?

Actually, since hard drive problems are normally a grinding rather than whirring I guess it would be the fan. Going to run the computer open and when I hear the noise hopefully I can see what fan is causing it.

Though I did just install a new hard drive. They are surprisingly annoying to fit into the hard drive bay. Had to fiddle it around to squeeze it in there, and the sides were getting scraped, didn't sound good. Oh well it got in and worked.

It was running fine for an hour then suddenly BSOD'ed :facepalm Didn't manage to get the code down though. I think I'm going to have to take it in to get serviced.

Sorry for the multiple posts btw.

That's probably do to with your keyboard drivers. Not sure what else it could be. Check your laptop manufacturer's website to see if they have some new ones.

I think the problem is my PSU now. The computer was running fine for an hour or so then I put the case side back on and a few minutes later it started making a funny noise. I don't think the two are related though because it's not like the case would have an effect on that...would it?

And I'm pretty sure it's the power supply because that's where the noise seemed to be coming from (from what I could tell) and it stopped once the fan stopped. I might have to get it replaced, but I'll probably take it in. If I do get it replaced I suppose I might as well upgrade it so that I can run another graphics card if I decide to in the future.

Really annoyed at my computer at the moment. The new Call of Duty comes out on Tuesday lol. Hopefully it can be fixed by then but I doubt it.

Are you doing all that upgrading just to play games on computer? Just buy a console. It's much cheaper and you won't have to upgrade a graphics card after a few years.

And it's not advisable to take your heatsink (if it's for your processor) out a couple of times. Normally on the heatsink there is a cooling pasta for your processor and it's recommended to place it with one go. If you're going to install it, then you could use some cooling pasta.

Also in this link it's mentioned a 500 Watt PSU will work fine as well, but 600 Watt is better: Is a 600 Watt Power Supply Enough? (Crossfire)? - Yahoo! Answers Also don't look at the Watt. Also look at the noise level (db).

A computer is alot better than a console in terms of playing games. And overall I wouldn't say its exponentially more expensive.

Does it fire up at all? Look in the Event logs if you can.

Ah, PSU. Simple to change, buy a decent brand though, some of them will come with 5-year guarantees. One of the rails could've failed, so the intermittent problems might be that you are still getting power through the PSU, but not consistent or enough power, which would explain the slightly random element to it. PSU's can cause BSOD.

Normally you can smell if a PSU has died. Take it apart with a screw driver, you might well see a burn mark. If so, don't bother getting it serviced, just buy a new PSU and do it yourself and save on the labour costs.

Nah I cleaned it because it was extremely dirty. Which lead to the heatsink problems. I installed a new hard drive as well. But now the PSU isn't working properly, not sure whether it's something I did while cleaning it, or it's because of the HDD. But it just seems too coincidental so I think it might be something I did. I've screwed it up enough so I'm going to take it in to make sure.

I think when I took it in, they completely removed the heatsink and put new thermal paste on before reattaching it. They at least took it off and on again because it's in a different orientation to last time. If they did put thermal paste on it would have been very nice of them because they didn't charge.

Also, I don't like using controllers, I prefer a mouse and keyboard.

Yea it still works perfectly fine, just after an hour or so of use it just randomly makes that noise, or that one time it BSODed. I knew that PSU's can cause BSODs though so I'm pretty sure that's the problem, especially as the noise seemingly comes from there.

Before it screws up though, it works perfectly fine. I was able to play MW2 for a good half hour and nothing went wrong. The temperatures are also pretty good now that I've got the heatsink on correctly. Consistent idling temperature of 42, while it got up to 49 playing MW2. Haven't put it under heavy load though.

The PSU isn't dead since I can still run the computer for a while. Could be a problem with the fan though, and after running for an hour or so it's not providing sufficient cooling. But the air out the back feels cool so I don't think it's that. I'll just take it in and hopefully they can fix it. I'm away on Monday and Tuesday so it's not too big a loss.

I got a problem in facebook... This morning i recieved a message from one of my friends and that message contained 6 messages from 3 different friends. And the header of the message shows a lot of friends

I didnt sent them all a collective message so how is this possible :noway

AngryPixel added 1 Minutes and 34 Seconds later...

I'm guessing that facebook somehow screwed up and sending me messages of another friend. Because i have set privacy settings so that only my friends can send me message and some of the messages are from people who are not my friends :facepalm

One of your friends has sent you a message which he has also sent to alot of friends. It isn't a glitch or bug.

That is because the sender sent it to several people. Now when anyone replies to that message, it will be visible to all the recipients.
