South Africa become number one ODI side

Sachin Comes number 1 in Ranking---He has not won the world cup,Ponting is better,Bla Bla.

You'd find most Australians think Sachin goes pretty well, and if he never wins a world cup, it most certainly won't be his fault. You might also find many Australians don't respect South Africa as a cricket team. For so long they've been around where we are in the rankings, be it Tests or One Dayers, and whenever they had the chance to prove it against us, they've been humiliated. South Africa is a special case, no matter how many they win or we lose, I'll still assume that they'll crumble when they play us next.

Kind of a coinsidence you mention that , because its always said when Smith does well South Africa does well , and it just shows that if he leads well from the front South Africa is a very strong side...

No I am also aware of that..Lol..Thats not Coincidence..I think main point is here that Smith comes to open the inning.And from several past months either Gibbs was not in prime touch or new opener to joined Smith..So whenever he has given good start,South Africa have scored good..
And if we take a look at Chasing then Smith and Kallis were the two guns which have fired most of time..

Well its obvious Ponting is not better than Tendulkar at the moment.

But these rankings puzzle me. When was the last time South Africa played some decent opposition. Such as India and Australia.

SA played India in SA about a year and a half ago and thrashed them 4-0. SA beat Aus in SA 3-2 (438 match). SA beat Pakistan in Pakistan 3-2..... so they've played and beaten everyone within the last 2 years. Just because they've played against Windies and the Bangladesh recently doesn't mean they're no1 because of beating weak teams.
