South African Tour of the West Indies, May-June 2010

That's harris and kallis job. Parnell offers variety, mcclaren doesn't offer anything as a bowler than kallis doesn't.

The selectors will stick with parnell especially seeing as he adds a more than a decent batting option at 8.

Agree to disagree with this. Yea Parnell offers variety as a left-armer, but it can be a be a bit tricky picking a player for the sake of variety, when their not 100% the finished article for tests.

He doesn't swing the red ball really & is still very inconsistent with his line.

I remember in mid to late 90s when Donald/Pollock was the main new-ball pair just like Steyn/Morkel. They backed up Donald/Pollock with batting & bowling all-rpunders such as McMillan, Klusener most of the time.

So if its Kallis & McLaren doing that job this time around. That would be the same thing like back in the days to me.

Also wouldn't be so sure of de wet getting back in the side.

How come?.

Yea I hear ya Dare, I was starting to go insane with a whole month of April without International cricket, at least that is back.

Huge end of year for Tests though and 2011 is a massive Test year as well

It sucks having to wait another month for the test series to start. Over the last 6 months its been one day cricket everywhere, from the end of the Aussie series then the IPL and now the 20/20 world cup. I want test cricket.

My concern is that the test series commence together with the hurricane season and from what we have been seeing down here the rains are already falling, that could disrupt the test series, it will be 4 years since a test match was played in JA in the month of June, only one test been played in St Kitts, well Barbados is an exception, so I do hope we can get 5 full days of cricket.

For us in North America it sucks because these are the only tests we will get to see at a good time. West Indies other tests are away from home.

Hopefully the rains stay away because it would suck to wait for so long to see test cricket and then they get washed out.
And like you said the last few years have been crazy during hurricane season all over the Caribbean. Last summer Mexico got owned.

Yeah they really don't need 5 ODIs. Should be 1 T20 max, 3 ODIs max and 3 tests. I want tests.

Good to see Miller getting picked. Should have been in the t20 sides but I guess late is better than never.

Doesn't really make sense picking him as a replacement for parnell though. Miller doesn't bowl at all.

Hopefully het at least gets to play the two t20's.

Another half century for Darren Bravo. That makes it 2 fifties and a century in 4 matches on this tour of Bangladesh.
Pascal has 10 wickets from 3 matches, Tonge has 7 wickets from 2 matches.
Top 4 wicket takers in this A team triseries are West Indian.

Yes, he has done well so far, both Edwards and Nash has been getting runs as well. It is good workout for Tonge ahead of the SA series!!!

You aren't really going to compare mcmillan and klusenar to mcclaren?? Both of them were much better batsmen than mcclaren. They were in the side for the package they provided. McClaren is in no shape or form even close to them in terms of batting.

As to the second part. Reasons why they will stick with parnell above de wet.

1.De wet is very close to 30.
2. It takes a lot to come back from a stress fracture. Doing it twice is going to very hard for him.
3.Parnell has always been groomed as a future SA star/captain since his time in the youth setup. Even when he has occasionally struggled in the odi's they have stuck with him.
4. Better batsmen compared to de wet , gives balance to the side.
5. Offers variety to a bowling attack being a left armer.
6. Has the qouta advantage. Might be irrelevant to most cricket discussion but in the SA context it does matter especially with ntini's decline.

@Dare: I think parnell has been withdrawn from the odi squad as well. From the press release of miller's inclusion they said parnell would only be available for the tests.

West Indies squad for the T20s and first 2 ODIs: Chris Gayle (capt), Dwayne Bravo (vice-captain), Sulieman Benn, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Andre Fletcher, Nikita Miller, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor.

Only change is Hinds being dropped. They haven't called up anyone from the A squad that is in Bangladesh.

@Stefan: I also think he wont play one day matches. On cricinfo it only says he is dropped for 20/20s but not ODIs.

Darren Bravo made a another fifty in the final one day match against south Africa A and then scored a century on the first day of the unofficial test against Bangladesh A.
