Mohammad Asif is claiming that Butt asked him to bowl a 'faster delivery' in order to unsettle the batsman, and in the process of bowling that faster delivery he overstepped by that margin.
I believe Mohammad Aamir is claiming that he was trying to bowl a bouncer to unsettle Trott, the batsman, and wanted the angle of the bounce to rise very quickly because Trott kept coming on the front foot.
When Waqar Younis questioned Aamir about the no-ball and asked "What the hell was that?" (in Punjabi), that was Salman's explanation (he interceded the discussion) to the coach (which Waqar reported in his statement).
So both bowlers have plausible explanations, and I believe are pinning this on Butt. Only a few weeks to go though, till we know the truth.

I didn't realise that shooting him would kill him, Bob here told me to do it to unsettle him a bit. I didn't realise he was getting me to murder him.
we are not talking about whether they did it or not. I am pretty sure they did it knowingly. But how do you prove it. I don't remember hearing about any concrete proof against Aamir and Asif. Butt however, did have large sums of money in his hotel room. So if Butt gets life ban because of Aamir and Asif pinning the blame on him, he will most probably make a statement against the two, write a book and cash in.

They were also investigating the three for alleged irregularities in the Oval match as well but have ruled Amir and Asif innocent. Butt still hasn't been cleared yet.
How do you prove it? Several ways. For starters, the no-balls tied in with when Mazheer told the NOTW bloke it would. How can that not be proof that the bowlers knew of it?
You could also look at the fact that no-balls of that size are incredibly irregular, it's not like bowlers just run in and bowl. They mark their run ups before the match and practice pre-match several times. They have no defence.
The reason why Butt only had the money was for security reasons, more chance of people finding out if 3 people have large sums of money.
It's not rocket science.
Given this is Pakistan cricket, I'm expecting it to blow out in a whole new and exciting way.

Also btw Sureshot, Asif's no ball was VERY VERY marginal, it was just slightly over.

Asif's probably got the best defence as he was very close to the line so its a bit more believable compared to Amir who was half way down the pitch.
Butt's excuse was hilarious though, in fact it wasn't even an excuse more of a "I dunno".
