Sri Lank to host World Twenty20 in 2012 and Bangladesh in 2014

Never knew about the KO Tournament, have to say sounds a lot more exciting than the Champions Trophy.

Those were the days, when cricket was still classy.
Yeah, it's totally unclassy now compared to those days where cricket was full of match fixers. :sarcasm

Cricket now is as good as it has ever been. Test cricket is extremely competitive at the moment. We just saw the Aussie team get beaten in a 5-match series by an English side in 3 games. Right now cricket is extremely competitive and we have such a lot great batsmen and bowlers around the world.

There's no need to slight the present to appreciate the past.

btw, I am more excited about NZ-Aus WC. I think they have the best stadiums of all nations. And they do some quality broadcasting. I always liked watching the games/series hosted in Aus, NZ. They look so kool, and up to US standards. So I am looking forward to a very professional tournament.

Sky Sports is the closest to American standards in terms of broadcast quality.

Game improved. New things came, and cricket looks better now. But I like the late 90s -2006/7. Classic to me is something from the past. I meant it that way. I dont mean cricket is bad now.

Good batsmen bowlers now? I can't agree. Think about the players that retired from WC 99-07. And compare that with current bunch.

McLOVIN added 1 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...

Hate subcon. matches. Watching it on ESPN3 just burns my eyes. It's sooo ... yellow. IDk how to put it. Doesn't look very organized at all.

I watch most of my cricket on Indian channels and its awful. The amount of advertisements is beyond excessive and the presentation is rubbish. I do like Star Sports though, its a lot better than NEO sports.

Ya, they make super-bowl look good. They put the commercials even before umps could say "OVER", while the commies are talking. Rude.

Well classic is one thing and classy is another.

I'm not obsessed with trying to figure out what the best era of cricketers was. I just appreciate that there have been plenty of talented sportsman throughout the history of the game. There were some damn good cricketers back then and there are some damn good cricketers today.

Like I said, you don't have to demean the present just to appreciate the past.

I'm just tired of people pretending like cricket today isn't at it's competitive best just because we've got so much Twenty20 around. People are still playing Test series' and very competitive ODI series'. And teams are actually on approximately the same level. Sure, we've seen a explosion of substandard cricketers through T20, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any quality Test cricketers.

Well then I guess I am in the wrong argument, because that's not what even I intended to say. I knew you were thinking that, because I saw you get frustrated on this similar topic on the other thread.

So there is no point arguing with each other about 2 different things

Please have CT Matches at Old Trafford.
I thought you lived in the north of Wales?

Americans :sarcasm

Haha no I believe it was the first version of the Champions Trophy, back in 1999-2000.
btw, this is old news, they announced this way before last T20 WC-WI.

I already pointed that out.

The KO World Cup, or Mini World Cup as McLOVIN pointed out, was the precursor to the Champions Trophy. And it was far more exciting because every game had meaning. And the tournament lasted very little time; but that was in the days when players weren't injured all the time due to too many fixtures.

India got to the final of the second one, as I recall. I think Yuvi and ZaK made their debuts in one of those competitions as well. I remember Yuvi had awesome matches against Australia and I think South Africa while ZaK was being hailed as the next best thing since sliced bread (some things never change--the Indian media).

So I was right then. Initially it was known as the ICC Knockout Trophy but the name and format were changed somewhere down the track?
