Strange case of Ashwell Prince

This guy was surely in thick of things as far as middle over batsman for South Africa went. He gets injured and in comes JP Dumminy. He bats like dream against Aussies and secures a place for himself. Now Prince was fit again byt where to fit him?

So he is asked to open and there he continues to have trouble as opening is specialist job. Meanwhile JPD has also went into bad form and now South Africa finds Prince and JPD both struggling for place in side.

Will Prince be able to save his career if selectors give him another chance?

If he gets a chance down the order where he was doing well for a year or more before he gets hurt then yes he can save his career.
Maybe both of them will get dropped but that is unlikely, they just need some domestic cricket to see whats wrong. A veteran like Prince he would get his form back.

JPD plays all format of game and if he finds form in any one it seals the door for poor Prince

They can let him lay the the 2 formats for a while and keep Prince in tests. Prince is 32 (i think?) and will play for 2 years or so in that time Duminy can mature and back up a place in the test squad with solid performances in domestic cricket.

Prince wasnt that great anyway at his best, decent player but JP is the future, form slump or not.

They will be fighting for one spot in the caribean tour with boucher fit and pietersen having taken his chance. They better watch out as well, lots of middle order players have had a good season in the domestic scene.

I'd back Prince for his spot, he's only a Test specialist anyway, so they can keep picking Duminy in some form and not really lose out. In the long run, Duminy might not even be a great Test batsman, maybe he'll only do well at limited overs. He is young and ideally a high priority player, but he also presents with a range of issues that he needs to sort out. While I agree that Duminy is more talented, I've seen Prince do stuff like face like 40 overs of Shane Warne; he's come to the party in a big way a lot more for South Africa and I expect that is how the selectors will play it.

We will have to wait and see. JP has Smith's and kallis's backing. Smith also now has a vote on the squad so there is a pretty good chance that they will stick with jp like they did with ab and kallis when they had similiar issues. Another factor that helps jp is that he is a decent second spinner.

Disagree with JP not being able to become a great test batsman, you don't average 50 in first class cricket if you can't play. To put it in perspective only other guy to do that in SA domestic cricket is kallis. Yes the kid has issues but those can and should be solved.
