I keep on getting 50 WPM as results. :/

Also tested my reading speed with a online test, it came out to be 287 WPM.

54 in the first try and 66 in the second.

I can get it around 80 wpm on that Test with relative accuracy. Can probably go faster without proper punctuation.

You're probably gonna be looking for a netbook, Mark. Thing is, netbook keyboards are tiny and cramped so it's harder to type on them. Probably still faster than writing without shorthand.

I haven't written a page on a piece of paper probably since I took the IBs (like 5 years ago). I'm sure my hand would really hurt if I tried.

Sohum,

After a bit of research and some recommendations I am getting a netbook today. So far everyone has told me to get a Lenovo netbook, any thoughts? I'm heading to Best Buy around 7 so if you see this before, I'd love your thoughts on Lenovo as a company etc

We were looking at Lenovo's back in the summer when we were in the market for a laptop. It's a Chinese company that has bought IBM and research shows that the quality has gone down since. Parts are cheaper now etc and customer service blows.

Make sure you get a netbook with a full size keyboard. I would consider getting a small laptop instead of a netbook for a couple hundred more, as it would last longer and would probably have a nicer screen that would eliminate eye strain and what not.

If I wanted a laptop, I would have gotten one. I need something small enough to fit in a back pack.

Anyways I just bought one, Toshiba mini NB505. It has a good mic on it, so I'll just record my lectures and handwrite what I deem important.

After getting some scores in the mid 50s, I finally made it into the 60s. 65 this time.

I've heard a lot of comments about how good Office OneNote is for this - I've got it on my netbook for when the Semester returns. If you're doing something vaguely tech related, it's in MSDNAA for free.

OneNote is pretty awesome, but I use my MBP for uni. Because of this I used evernote which syncs your notes to the internet and with my evernote program I have on my windows home pc as well which is handy.

I've never been a OneNote fan. I really dislike the UI. I prefer to take notes with Word. If you have a Dropbox account, you get all the syncing you can want without having to use something like Evernote.

Mark, I experimented with recording lectures using Audacity during my senior year. However, my laptop's (HP) battery was too shitty for it to work. Only got about 2.5 hours of battery life. And I don't think I ever went back and listened to a lecture again.
