Somehow I don't think it's an appropriate analogy at all.
Let us remember that Cricket is a game ultimately. Gandhi was one of India's greatest political figures during the time of Independence. That's no comparison at all.
Well, tests are easier to play because of the pace at which you play the game. The pressures from both formats are really different. You got to be physically and mentally strong for shorter formats. But for me, Tendulkar in ODI's is better than Tendulkar in tests because he is good when he scores runs at a fast clip. When he plays like a test batsman, he gets bogged down and doesnt play his usual self. Earlier, he used to bat aggressively in tests too. Now he has changed.
I am happy that he is going to continue now that he is in great form. So, he is not retiring after the Pakistan series means he will go into 2008 and play both forms. Lets hope he takes the best decision for himself and if possible, for the team.
Probably not as much. I dont know how it was in 1948 when Gandhi died but it must surely have been huge. But for a huge legion of Indian fans, Sachin's exit must be really hard to manage. Bound to be an emotional moment too. Probably the biggest superstar of Indian cricket and one of the biggest superstars in world cricket.
If Sachin continues his current form to until he retires, the reaction would cross unimaginable levels. He is batting now like how he used to

The age hides a lot though. He has been playing international cricket since he was 16 and that would take a lot out of his body. The magnitude of long innings he plays will also take a toll on his body more than your average 34 year old international cricketer.
