The Ashes 2021/22

TBH , is this really a cricket thread ? :p
It is but trust me anyone English is looking away from the current disappointment and that's a complete understatement.

I don't think anyone was ready for the complete smashing we have received, there is only limited talking points from a one sided series. Last time England were smashed in the test series the ODI series proved to be amazing so we hope for the same.

I felt England were a lot better when they went to NZ in 2019 and a month later when they beat South Africa in South Africa but the rotational policy actually destroyed the core of this side. After the India series it was pretty much clear where England stood. I felt England had better bowlers this time around and it is pretty clear by the results. If there were few more batsman who did score runs the results would've been on the other side. I won't be surprised if England ODI team beats the Aussies like anything. I strongly believe England are a notch above any side in ODIs. Australia, India & New Zealand are fighting amongst themselves for being the 2nd best team but the gulf is just huge!

I have to agree but surely being absolutely smashed and offering no fight is abysmal, if they still lost every game but by a tight margin it would have been an epic series. Commercially, the Australians would have hoped England offered more fight and can only hope the ODI series offers more promise, I think England lost many of their opening games and stumbled into the finals? And then all three matches were pretty good.

Because you don't have anyone to carry the batting line-up apart from Joe Root who scored around 1500 runs last year. Australia had to do just one thing this time around is to get Joe Root out. Given his not such great record in Australia he was always going to face it difficult to carry England's batting. Before the series, I just knew England are going to get smashed so I am not surprised at all.

This pretty much sums it up:-
Don't know how people feel about this but I can see Warner suddenly turning on his beast mode and scores a couple of hundreds, Smith getting back his consistency while Marnus will somehow trouble England.

I also feel Root will suddenly a have lean patch at the start of this tour and probably will come back a little too late in this series.

Anderson is going to have another good series in Australia while others will falter. Woakes will get wickets but will be a little expensive.

Mitchell Starc will once again struggle to keep the runs down while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will dominate the English batting line-up.

I expect a 3-1 or 4-1 result in Australia's favour.
Woakes though did not get wickets while Marnus outplayed Smith. Warner missed those centuries by just 7 & 3 runs at Gabba and Adelaide respectively.
England are losing this 4-0 or 5-0. The best chance to escape a defeat is tomorrow.

Hoping the Barmy Army are preparing a song for this. It's an absolute gift.

But I would drive 500 miles
And I would drive 500 more
Just to be the man who drove a thousand miles
To fall down at your stumps

Crawley's gonna score a century isn't he and we're going to have to endure another year of his rubbish.

Hameed almost gets to double figures. Big improvement.

He looks the best of all the openers you've tried here.

Speaking of which, Hameed is out

Honestly I really hope he does. It would be dead interesting to see if some proper coaches can make a Test star out of him. He has the shots of 2002 Michael Vaughan, but he's as disaster-prone as 2022 Michael Vaughan
