Story The Channel 4 Rebel Counties League

In response to losing the Test Match Cricket rights, Channel 4 have announced their own league to start in the offseason featuring 8 counties.

We feel the best way to prove how popular cricket can be on terrestrial television is to create our own league and play counties in it to give them some practice for their championships.

The eight counties are yet to be confirmed, as they try to find out which of their players is available to play for them!

The games will be played at the Rose Bowl, which Channel 4 have succesfully hired.

PS. If this story is half as good as some of the really talented people's on here, then I'll have exceded my expectations!

More Announcements

Channel 4 today released more information on their "Rebel League", starting with the fact that the chairman of the project has been appointed and his name is Simon Guy. He led the press conference today:

We have more announcements to be made about the league, including our main sponsor and the unveiling of our logo. We will also announce some of the counties who are to play in the tournament.

The main sponsor is BT, who also spoke today.

We are pleased to be supporting cricket as one of our community projects this year.

Counties Announced

The counties to participate in the rebel league were also announced today:

Darren Gough spoke on behalf of Essex:

Since I lost my place in the England touring side, I was looking to play some cricket, to help me get my England place back in the summer. This tournament is a great way to do that.

James Anderson spoke on behalf of Lancashire:

This is a great way for me to get some more playing in and help the many people out there who now cannot watch live cricket.

Robert Croft spoke on behalf on Glamorgan:

This tournament is a great way to get us back in nick and try to win some much needed titles this summer!

Mark Alleyne spoke on behalf of Gloucestershire:

This should be a great contest and good fun to!

Nick Knight spoke on behalf of Wawickshire:

I have decided to come back as captain, and we will take this very seriously and try to win.

Mark Butcher spoke on behalf of Surrey:

We need to turn things around very quickly here at Surrey and this is the perfect way to do that.

Jason Gallian spoke on behalf of Nottinghamshire:

We had a very successful season last year and we want to carry it on by winning this.
