The FM Elimination Challenge (June 2026)

Fear not Treva, if I end up finishing this challenge I will make a second one.. where you can be something apart from Russian. Russia was a bad idea. :o

The points battle intensifies here, as all competitors (except one) move a lot closer to each other! The people dwelling at the bottom of the table have suddenly caught up and it's now definitely anybody's game.

January 1, 2010
The players' 17th birthday

Mattfb (GK, Italy)
Club: Arsenal
League: English Premier League

Matt managed to incredibly find his way to the big stage - after Arsenal miraculously called him up for a crucial Champions League match against Man City - which Arsenal ended up losing 2-0. Matt stayed in the Under 18s from then, remaining as the first choice goalkeeper, but towards the end of December he tore his knee ligaments, a nasty injury which would see him out for up to two months.

Points: 119.25

User2010 (GK, England)
Club: Valencia
League: Liga BBVA

User found himself called up into the Valencia squad for their Champions League match, in incredible circumstances, similar to Matt, and he played superbly - playing 3 continental games and conceding just 2 goals. He also has been promising in the Under 18s, conceding just 15 goals from 15 games and he is in a very comfortable position.

Points: 125

Nakul (ST, Spain)
Club: Valladolid
League: Liga BBVA

Nakul shot out to the lead in October, and despite not managing to continue his stunning level of performance from them, he has still played superbly, earning 5 call-ups to the Valladolid senior squad in which he scored just the one goal from. His international record remains the best out of anyone though - 8 youth goals from 4 youth caps for Spain, and he has done well to hold on to his lead.

Points: 148.34

MaD (DC/DM/MC, England)
Club: Aberdeen
League: Scottish Premier League

Undoubtedly the surprise mover after October, MaD shot up the leaderboard after he consistently made his way into the Aberdeen first team, at just 16 years of age. He has played just one game in the Under 18s for Aberdeen - instead, the senior squad has needed him in the defensive midfielder position and he has played 23 games already, scoring one goal and adding three assists, at an average rating of 6.71. He is allegedly unhappy at Aberdeen, however, so it will be interesting to see where he progresses.

Points: 129.36

Hedger (ST, Sweden)
Club: Kalmar FF
League: Swedish Premier Division

Hedger's choice of club has made it slightly more difficult for him to rack up the points, but he continues to play reasonably well and has been rewarded with the first-team striker position spot in Kalmar FF now. He hasn't been able to earn as many points, but in the close battle he can easily overtake someone at any time - and he has a year up his sleeve, with elimination safe this round. He scored 4 goals from 12 games in the Kalmar FF first team in their 2009 season, and is just beginning the 2010 season in Sweden.

Points: 102.29

Covvy (ST, England)
Club: Valencia
League: Liga BBVA

Covvy managed to play two continental games for Valencia alongside User2010, in Valencia's attempt to give their youth some first class experience, but played poorly, averaging just 6.35 from the two games. However, he has been a different story in the Under 18s, scoring 5 goals from 7 games, and he scored a nice goal on his debut for the England Under 21 team, seeing him to a comfortable mid-table position.

Points: 120.1

Ollie H (MC, England)
Club: Reading
League: Coca-Cola Championship

Ollie found himself in deep trouble at Reading, sitting in second-last position after October, but an inspired run in the Under 18s team has seen him comfortably up the ladder, away from the dreaded 'drop zone'. He scored 5 goals and provided 11 assists from just 16 games, earning 3 MOTM awards for the Under 18s, before getting a senior call-up and playing a total of 9 games for Reading, 3 of those as a sub. He also earned a youth cap for England, starting in centre midfield, and if he continues this superb form he might soon become a serious challenger.

Points: 107.25

Giggity Giggity (ST, Wales)
Club: West Brom
League: Coca-Cola Championship

Currently the only player with a senior MOTM award to date, Giggity Giggity aka Kiko has found great form with West Brom and has played well, scoring 4 goals and adding an assist from 11 senior games. He also looked extremely threatening in the Under 18 team, scoring 7 goals from 12 games, and he earned 4 youth call-ups for Wales, becoming the most capped 'international' player, alongside Nakul with their 4 youth caps each. His extended run in the West Brom first team has seen him progress all the way to third position, in an excellent run of form, and there's no doubt he has had some role in guiding West Brom to their current position in the Championship - 1st.

Points: 125.5

Treva (DC, Russia)

Treva didn't play any more games for Russia, seeing him looking likely to end his career as a 2 cap wonder, and being perhaps the youngest person to retire. The dreaded Metalist from Ukrainian effectively killed off the young Russian truck from the competition, and he has no chance of coming back now.

Points: 11.2

The Spin (ST, Switzerland)
Club: Genoa
League: Serie A

Despite not making a senior appearance, The Spin, or Chez, has been very solid in the Genoa youth team, scoring 10 goals and adding 3 assists from 25 games. His good form saw him get one Switzerland international call-up, where he was unable to find the net, but the sheer amount of youth games he has played sees him into a comfortable mid-table position in the FM Elimination Leaderboard, and he will just need to keep up his solid efforts for the Genoa youth team to stay in contention.

Points: 119.21

Maney2k9 (ST/ML, Ireland)
Club: Southampton
League: Coca-Cola League One

It took Maney 8 goals and 4 assists from 18 games in the youth team before the struggling Southampton noticed him - and he immediately earned his first-team spot. Unfortunately, playing for Southampton limited the amount of points he could gain from playing - effectively, playing a youth game for an English Premier League team would earn almost as many points as a first team appearance for Southampton, but he fought hard and earned 16 appearances for the first team, where he scored 3 goals and added 1 assist from the left midfielder position. He was also called up to play one youth game for Ireland - which proved to be the difference in points from seeing him into second last position or third last.

Points: 104.87

Shantanu Rooney (ST, Germany)
Club: Rostock
League: German Second Division

Shantanu Rooney continued to blitz his opponents in the Rostock youth team, scoring a staggering 17 goals from just 13 games, before he was called up, like so many others, into the senior team. He played a total of 13 games, scoring a handy 4 goals, but Rostock undoubtedly would've liked a few more from him. Still, he has plenty of time to learn and mature and he will settle for a very handy spot in mid-table - his impressive efforts in the Under 18s earning him some handy points.

Still leading eh? Good to see that and very happy to score goals for the national team.

Nakul (-$750,000)

Very sad about this.

Hope it improves in the future.

Well at least I have a small advantage, being the Swedish league structure considering Treva has already been eliminated (or obviously will be). A bit sad to see me in second last but Oh Well.

Eliminations will now take place each June, as the season data resets by July, which removes all the non competitive statistics, so I can't find the total points scored by each person.

I found out the hard way. 2 and a half hours of holidaying. Gone.

Next update will be later today, at least 3 hours away.

Welcome to the first elimination - and it comes as no real surprise this time. The only person without a club, the young Russian defender had simply no luck finding a team and as a result it was Treva heading home.

Day 335 of existance

Mattfb (GK, Italy)
Club: Arsenal
League: English Premier League
Player Profile

After recovering from his knee injury, Matt found his way back into the Under 18s team for Arsenal but did not manage to play as many games as he would've liked - with constant international call-ups resulting in him not playing for Arsenal or Italy, as he remained on the bench. He finally got one youth cap for Italy, but he didn't play a huge deal for Arsenal's Under 18, seeing him drop in the leaderboard.

Points: 134.25

User2010 (GK, England)
Club: Valencia
League: Liga BBVA
Player Profile

User2010, after some impressive performances, came into Valencia's first team as a starting goalkeeper and performed reasonably, making 15 appearances and conceding 18 goals, a good effort from the young goalkeeper. He continued, in his time off, to play in the youth team as well, making 24 appearances, conceding just 22 goals. His lack of international call-ups saw him focus on club matches more and he earned a lot of points through his games played for Valencia, becoming the first player to crack the 200 point barrier.

Points: 201.05

Nakul (ST, Spain)
Club: Valladolid
League: Liga BBVA
Player Profile

After a strong start for Nakul, which saw him on top after December, he slowed off the pace a bit, not getting as many chances to play in the Spanish youth team or for the Valladolid Under 18s. In the end, he became a floating striker for the Valladolid senior team, playing a few matches and then resting a few. He scored 4 goals from 13 appearances, coming on twice as a sub, which earned him a respectable amount of points, but not enough to hold on to his early lead.

Points: 179.84

MaD (DC/DM/MC, England)
Club: Aberdeen
League: Scottish Premier League
Player Profile

MaD continued to be the surprise package of the competition, remaining entirely in the Aberdeen firsts, and he wasn't even thought of for the Under 18 team for the rest of the season. He played an impressive 41 senior games over the year, the most by any competitor, and as a result was offered a new contract on $185,000 a year until September, 2012 at Aberdeen, and he has already been touted as the next Owen Hargreaves.

Points: 191.11

Hedger (ST, Sweden)
Club: Juventus
League: Serie A
Player Profile

It seemed Hedger had had enough at Kalmar FF, earning minimal points and not playing many games, so when Juventus came calling in January he was more than happy to leave in order to further his career - but a nasty torn hamstring saw him out of action for three months, and he didn't make a single appearance for Juventus in their Under 18 team. However, he has just about recovered from his injury and it will be interesting to see if he can hold down a spot. He also played 1 youth game for Sweden, scoring a goal on his debut to impress the selectors.

Points: 135.17

Covvy (ST, England)
Club: Valencia
League: Liga BBVA
Player Profile

Covvy was the main disappointment of the January to June period, as he picked up small injuries to keep him out of contention such as a twisted knee and a bruised thigh. His constant call-ups to the England Under 21 squad saw him not get much game time in Valencia's youth team, and in the end he only played 1 game for England's Under 21, scoring a goal. It was a disappointing period though, and he will be desperately needing to improve on his efforts.

Points: 129.1

Ollie H (MC, England)
Club: Man City
League: English Premier League
Player Profile

With Reading in serious trouble in the Championship, Ollie decided enough was enough and decided to head to Man City after they came calling - a great deal which saw him earn quite a few points just for joining. The move proved to be a good one, as he played 5 youth games for Man City, providing 2 assists and generally looking impressive, and he even got an Under 21 call-up alongside Covvy in his debut for England. With his move to Man City, he has earned enough points to stay out of the danger zone, but will want to keep playing well in order to break into the senior team.

Points: 153.98

Giggity Giggity (ST, Wales)
Club: West Brom
League: Coca-Cola Championship
Player Profile

Giggs was a very impressive player in West Brom's campaign, and he had a role in their superb performances all year, seeing them eventually promoted as champions at the end of the year. He ended up playing 20 league games for West Brom, scoring 7 goals and adding 2 assists, and he became the first person to get a senior international call-up after Wales required his services. He came on as sub late in the game but didn't have much of an impact. Still, the signs are very bright for Giggity Giggity as he continues to progress and he will enjoy the experience of the Premier League next year.

Points: 168.3

Treva (DC, Russia)
Eliminated: 1st (2010)

Points: 16.8

The Spin (ST, Switzerland)
Club: Genoa
League: Serie A
Player Profile

The Spin became the second person behind GG to get a senior call-up for his national team, as Switzerland came calling, and he didn't disappoint, scoring a superb goal on his debut to become the first ever senior international goalscorer. He remained solid in Genoa's youth team, scoring 12 goals and 3 assists from 27 matches, and earned one callup for the senior Genoa team where he played solidly enough in their win, without scoring.

Points: 138.01

Maney2k9 (ST/ML, Ireland)
Club: Southampton
League: Coca-Cola League One
Player Profile

Maney soon established himself in the Southampton firsts and they desperately required him as they began sliding down the table. Maney, however, was superb in his first team matches, playing 31 games and earning an average rating of almost 7, and he was one of the main reasons why Southampton managed to stay up in League One, finishing 14th. He also got two youth caps for Ireland, and he looks to be developing very well in the Southampton first team, although how long will it be before his ambition gets the better of him and he heads elsewhere?

Points: 142.62

Shantanu Rooney (ST, Germany)
Club: Rostock
League: German Second Division
Player Profile

Shantanu Rooney carried on his incredible goal-scoring blitz in the Under 18s team, scoring 18 goals and 2 assists from 15 games for the season at an average rating of 7.84, and Rostock soon called him into the first team where he became their main striker, scoring 16 goals from 29 appearances. He wasn't required for the Germany youth team, but in a way this was good as it helped him focus on playing for Rostock and he contributed excellently - the sheer amount of matches he played for Rostock saw him climb further up the leaderboard into an impressive position.
