The Official Rules of Cricket

Hi All

I am sure this has been asked before, but where online can one find the official rules of cricket?

The reason I ask is I have been watching a lot of highlights from the VB series and have noticed a lot of catches being taken diving etc, where the player has ended up with taking a really good catch, but then rests on his hands with the ball upside down, ie into the turf. Now I was just wondering about what the official rules say about this sort of catch.

Now before you flame the hell out of me, I have partaken in a fair amount of cricket, but I have never really gone into great depth as to the rules of catches. So any pointers on this sort of thing would be great.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks a bundle, so then based on those rules, then I would say that the catch would be fine. I guess you learn some new things every day.

I take these laws were changed after the Gibbs World Cup debacle? As acording to my understanding of these rules he had the ball under control? Although a lot is left to the umpires descretion, so then if the umpire does not think he has it under control, he in fact does not.

Any way thanks a lot, and I see that some of the catches my be a little suspect, but there is no way that an umpire could decide differently unless he were to use the third umpire, which would probably only ruin the game. So thanks a bundle.

Thanks

With regards to catches it's very much in the Umpire's discretion. As you say the term 'under control' is used all though that can be changed depending on how the individual sees it.
