Things always appeared to go right for ddrap14's XI right from start to finish even in the draft, where they began with Shaun Pollock and ended with the legendary Viv Richards, and also ended up being led by Mike Brearley who despite his limitations as a player had a 'degree in people' as one of cricket's most well regarded captains. He missed out on leading England to global silverware in the 1979 World Cup final where he ran into Richards and Joel Garner at their very best, but did not miss out this time with the former on his side for a change.
Aravind's XI, who possessed one of the most potent bowling attacks of the competition containing the likes of Shane Bond, Naseem Shah, Chris Jordan, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat can consider themselves unlucky to finish second. But there was little they could do against Richards at his very best and two of their vital cogs in Sangakkara and Jordan enduring a poor match. They did have something to celebrate at the very least with Shane Bond being declared Player of the Tournament for his unwavering returns of 11 wickets at 14.18 whilst conceding at just 4.25 per over from 4 matches.
Nobody was going to beat Viv Richards to Player of the Match for his unbeaten 108 off just 96 balls containing 4 sixes, with the 'King' of ODI batsmanship saving his best for last in a tournament where he had scores of 34, 79* and 19 previously. Lance Cairns, who blitzed 33 off just 17 balls and claimed 2 for 46 whilst bowling was a tad unfortunate being pitted against such a legendary player.
