The Situation In America

Trump is so dumb that he thinks the mob is there for him. They couldnt care less about him: they just want this cyberpunk armageddon and they will chew him up and spit him out as soon as his fat flabby empty shell of a soul has served its purpose.

I think we will see the certification process go suprisingly quickly suddenly.

Biden has both houses now: he needs to thoroughly prosecute Trump and his merry feckwits and shore up democratic processes beyond the tampering of trumplike demagogues.

Personally I think this is going to utterly galvanize anti trump sentiment: already a number of staunch supporters are rallying around the constitution. The trump clan has been welcomed in by the republican party and have sweetly smiled as he ***** them up the jacksy.

Trumpism has shown its true ugly face and even stupid people are waking up.
The people that matter are the voters. And none of them are going to abandon him. They'll defeat the sensible Republicans in the primary elections. Trump will be gone, but Trumpism is here to stay. @Aislabie hit the nail on the head

Not sure of that: there are also a lot of sensible republicans who will either deflect to the democrats or a anti trump movement will come about.

wierdly enough what has happened today might be the best thing that could have happened for democracy in america. Time will tell.

I do agree however that the democrats need to much much more progressive in their ideas and policies to give the disenfranchised a voice and an existence with dignity.[DOUBLEPOST=1609974281][/DOUBLEPOST]Woman who was shot has died. What a sorry and useless loss of a life.

Sorry, but never going to happen, as much as i'd like it to. The Republican Party is the Trump Party now.
The motherf*cker is tweeting stuff like this, and not one, not two, but three Republican congressmen refused to condemn anything he said on NBC. They weren’t just speaking for themselves.

This has been the face of Trumpism since the very beginning. It's not new, and it is most surprising in the sense of precisely how unsurprising it truly is.

Equally though, it would be most remiss to not call it what it is: fascism. It doesn't have to be competent or successful or openly anti-Semitic to be fascist. But the lunacy and depravity of this fascist movement is just another symptom of America's broken and diseased socio-politico-economic system.

I think a lot of things are likely to change post the incident that happened at the Capitol yesterday. McConnell had already broken away from Trump a week or so back. The rumors have gotten stronger last night that Mike Pence is also on the same path. They were saying that it was Pence who was responsible for the deployment of the National Guard at the Capitol yesterday when Trump was really reluctant to give those orders (remember that Trump is commander-in-chief).

Also the riots last night changed minds of quite a few people in the Senate where those folks who were initially planning to object, changed their stance post the riots and accepted the electoral results. And this was the Senate that as of date has a Republican majority (this is changing when Biden starts office, as the Senate will soon be tied with the Democrats holding tie breaker power).

If the republican leadership is true to its word and wants to really expulse Trump from their party then they have to impeach him, make it impossibel to run for office again. yes others will come, yes another party will form but there were some signs of human decency on show in their ranks yesterday that could prove vital.

It was political expediency, mate. Do you really think these people have principles after supporting Trump for so long? Romney is the only principled Republican in the Senate.[DOUBLEPOST=1610039399][/DOUBLEPOST]65% of House Republicans voted to overthrow the election.

Don't mistake disliking Donald Trump and being principled.

Impeached twice :lol
Will rightfully go down in history as the worst American president ever.
