The Toon- Geordie Style (It's back!)

Wednesday 15th August

Well with my first ever away game coming up I was kinda under pressure as at home my 4 year old son was starting his first day of school as with us moving all other the place he had no time to go to school. He's gonna be big when he's older, I'd say he's better that Alan Smith if that actually meant anything... The papers had suprisingly put us a slight favourites but I thought that a draw would be good. Oh well.

Matchday had arrived and all the lads were up beat and listening to their own music. A few pratical jokes had been done today including Alan Smith getting locked in the shower and when he came out there was no towel or anything, bless him. Obviously he went in a strop but still, bless him. Well the game started and feeling sorry for Smith I let him start a game in the hope he could do something. I would LOVE to write about the first half but there were no shots, no fould, nothing. Boring to watch and I gave the lads a good talking to at half time. 5 minutes into the second half and Geremi scores a cracking free kick from 20 yards. Up and over the wall and into the top corner it went. After that, unfortunatley for me to say it was all Wigan until the last ten minutes in which we hit the post. Although Wigan had hit the post twice and bar once in that 30 minuntes they couldn't get a goal back and that made us win our first away game of the season. The fans were great, I must admit with at least a few thousand travelling all this way. A win is a win though and I'm pretty grateful for a 2 wins in 2 game record. Nice start to the season, me think.

Well at the end of the day, some reason there were 5 games, we were somejow in 2nd place and looking at the table I got a phonecall saying that Michael Owen had recovered from injury. Now that is good news! But there was one funny score today involving a certain Chelsea, poor blues.

Sunday 19th August

As I read the newspaper that morning I saw that quite a few of our players had made it into their national team. For England we saw Michael Owen, no real suprise there and then we saw Alan Smith which was a little bit of a suprise but he has been in great form. But the biggest shock was seeing Nicky Butt recalled for England again! How proud. In other places we saw that Sarghi got called up for Romania, Emre called up for Turkey, Martins and Babayaro getting called for Nigeria and Rozehnal got called up for the Czech first team. 8 players in total getting called up isn't bad but I'm hoping that as The Toon gets better we get more world class national regulars in the team.

Well todays game was against Reading at St.James' Park. I wanted goals in this game and I wasn't going to be stopped in that mission. We're in 2nd place and were sure favourites for the Premiership Tie. Once again Beye had been nocked to the bench as the defence was coping with everything that came at them. Owens and Martins to start up front together as I go for goals! Well quite the opposite happened as Kevin Doyle scores on the 28th minute mark. A 12 minute goal drought then arrived as Torje missed his spot kick on the 40th minute but then got to the rebound ahead of the Reading player and tapped it in. The second half brought the same amount of goals but this time, both were ours. Our second goal arrive on 51 minutes just after the break as N'Zogbia just gets the ball pass a Reading Defender and Martins has an easy shot as he buries it into the bottom corner. The last goal fell to injury struck Michael Owen on the 73rd minute as Martins' shot gets aved and Michael was there to pick up the pieces like a true striker. A good win I must admit, although Nicky Butt did have a bad game.

Anyway, our result puts us to the top of the table ahead of Manchester United who are just 2 points behind after 3 games. This must be the best start to a season Newcastle have ever had, as not only are we top, but Sunderland are rock bottom!

This is the funniest story i've ever read. Oh wait, is it not meant to be funny? :p

Seems like your working wonders Jaz!

Saturday 25th August

Well, geuss what? We have a new feeder club! A bulgarian one but they all count. 3 years to get a work permit so will be useful when we buy young 'uns in the transfer windows although I still want 1 or 2 more feeder clubs to strengthen our Knowledge in the World as we are currently known in many countries but as I said a few weeks ago, I want us to be a global phenomenon.

Well we had a hard game today as we were traveling to the Riverside to face Middlesborough in the next Premier League Match. We were suprisingly favourites with most of the odds favouring us, although I though we may struggle and get a draw. It will be interesting nonethless. Anyway it seemed to be a long way to the Riverside but once we got there we were in the 'zone'. I had loads of the lads coming up to me and asking for tactics so at least they were eager, I guess. As the match started they were certainly out of the blocks quicker as in the first 20 minutes we had no hots and they had quite a few with Sanli Tuncay coming close no less than 3 times. The match died down a bit until the 43rd minute when Michael Owen was clea through but Boateng pulled his shirt back and Owen fell to the floor. Penalty! Martins successfully slotted home the penalty in which Owen got credited with the assist?! Funny but nice for both of them, I guess. Half time shortly came and tempers were a little higher than usual but I calmed them down and told them just how lucky they were to be playing! The second half came around and the players had a little burst of life playing well in the first 15 minutes until Tuncay hit the bar! How unlucky has he been today?! The action from the 60th minute was non existant until the 90th minute when Middlesborough had a surge of energy, hit the post and then Stancu ran 3 quaters of the pitch had a shot from no-where which was parried and Martins slotted home to seal the match for us and to get his 4th goal in 4 games of the season. Well played Sir. We told them how well they did to hold on to the draw and decided to give them the following day a day off training. They deserved it!

After a tough game, there were 41 fouls, we waited for the rest of the days results. And boy it seemed that we were clear in front by 4 points! Nice to see Chelsea, Liverpool and Totenham draw though.

Great game. Well in Oba! Newcastle are my favourite Premiership team. Mainly as I have a lot of family over there. Toon Army! 'King' Kevin Keegan lasted long eh? :p He probably went to Coventry instead of Iain 'Whoever plays well gets dropped and never gets in the team again' Dowie.
Liverpool result was realistic. Yet another draw lol. Cheap but quality buys, a few loaned out, its like you know what you are doing Jaz!
Good Luck with the rest of the Toon season. Top 4 finish or you are sacked, and we want Steve McClaren :p

Wednesday 29th August

Week started quite sadly with me sacking Physio Kevin Bell as I'm looking to save some money and reshuffle the staff. We were so confident in training through the week and I have been impressed with Michael Owen and Mr.Emre in training, so they will both get starts and we will see how they go. Although I will probaly have some backup on the bench just in case something bad happens.

Anyway matchday came and we had to travel west to Carlisle to face them in the Carling Cup. The fans were singing and eating loads of pies(!) before the game and in general the atmosphere was brilliant. How happy would the fans be if I won them a trophy if they are like this just before a game against Carlisle? Anyway we started brightly, yes WE started brightly. We got a corner in the 17th minute which Emre took from the left and he overhit it quite a bit but Steven Taylor from the back hit a looping header which lobbed the keeper with no-one at the post. 1-0 and the fans are really singing now. 17 minutes later and we make it 2-0 with Martins and Owen linking well up front with the eventual touch by Michael Owen. 4 minutes later this time and again we score(3-0 after 38 mintues) and it is Michael Owen who scores again but this time the goal isn't as beautiful. A corner again by Emre was not cleared well enough and then a huge scuffel ended with Owen recieving the ball near the back post unmarked as he taps it in. Half time and it is 3-0, away aswell. Delighted that we haven't conceded a goal yet, but it is even better that we have scored 3 in the process. 4-0 came shortly after the break as Nicky Butt puts a beach of a through ball from the half way line for Martins to run on to and do a bit of what Obafemi usually does as he takes on the keeper and slots it home. After this though the game dried up and nothing really happened bar a few yellows on their part and Torje hitting the post but in the 89th minute Mark Viduka was brought down in the box for a strange decision by the captain Radoi on his choice of Penalty taker. It was himself! Luckily though he banged in the bottom corner to end the game for us as 5-0 victors.

Well our last game of the month so my next diary entry will be my month overview on August. What a great month it has been.

August 2007 - An Overview

First competitive month in charge and boy was it a good one. A few suprises were on the way as I was hoping for 3 wins and 2 draws but in the end we went and got 5 wins! The lads have been amazing but Radoi and Torje have had electric starts to their Newcastle career although our Strikers have been in deadly form. Well played this month team!

Newcastle 2 - 0 Everton
Well it was my first competitive game in charge and it was against the 'mighty' blues. We took the lead through Martins before Sepsi finished it of for us. We played incredibly well and I was dead chuffed with the lads.

Wigan 0 - 1 Newcastle
Our worst performance of the month in my opinion as it was quite an equal game although we just about deserved the win. Geremi this time getting the goal with a great free-kick. At the time we had moved into second place.

Newcastle 3 - 1 Reading
Well a win here put us top of the table for the first time this season and a good win it was although I vaguely remember Nicky Butt having a dredful game. Torje, Martins and Owen all lucky enough to find the net, although we conced our first goal of the season.

Middlesborough 0 - 2 Newcastle
The fans 'Match Of The Month' winner as we end up beating rivals Middlesborough at the Riverside in which we were quite amazing. Martins again the man to get the goals as he netted twice as we stay top, but increase the lead to 4 points. Funny how there were 41 fouls in the match...

Carlisle 0 - 5 Newcastle
An amazing away win, even if it is even only Carlisle, as we netted 5 times. Martins scored for a 3rd time in a row as Michael 'injured' Owen gets 2 for himself. Whilst at the back Radoi and Taylor both netted a penalty and header respectively.

After a truley outstanding month in the premiership for us, and off the pitch where we have made numberous changes to the staff and nice to see Nicky Butt getting called up for England. Well the premiership monthly awards were in and they wernt

Manager Of The Month

1. James Edmonds
2. Sir Alex Ferguson
3. Steve Bruce

Player Of The Month

1. Robin Van Persie
2. Obafemi Martins
3. Kevin Doyle

Young Player Of The Month

1. Micah Richards
2. Charles N'Zogbia
3. Younes Kaboul

Nice to see us getting the runner up in Young Player Of The Month and Player Of The Month although I am estatic to recieve the Manager Of The Month award in which I must thank the players as they have been brilliant this month winning every possible game.

:o What is this? Newcastle...winning matches?? Must be a dream :p, or a story. Which it is. Excellent start by the Toon, long may it continue, please don't let Manky United win, Jaz!
I think you'll win the Carling Cup for my two-pence worth :p
